Song ideas come from everywhere; this one, I found in my shower this morning.

Lyrics

Maybe curse the calendar, claim it’s running fast
Maybe polish coal and diamonds from the past
Maybe sit up nights, let morning rise late
Maybe pull the covers up and choose to hibernate

I don’t know how to act my age
‘Cause I’ve never been as old as I am today.
Tomorrow might be better but that depends
On how much wiser I get by then.

Maybe wear my slippers when I go out for a walk
Maybe reminisce about summers when I talk
Maybe let the dandelions dominate the lawn
Maybe think too much about the people who are gone

I don’t know how to act my age
‘Cause I’ve never been as old as I am today.
Tomorrow might be better but that depends
On how much wiser I get by then.

Maybe pick a hobby, call it number thirty-three
Maybe start a project that will last beyond me
Maybe stick my tongue out and embarrass someone’s kid.
Maybe write a book about the things I maybe did

I don’t know how to act my age
‘Cause I’ve never been as old as I am today.
Tomorrow might be better but that depends
On how much wiser I get by then.

I go with the hybernate. 😀 Beautiful song, love the lyrics, and the chorus is a very good point.

A beautiful meditation on the relentlessness of time vs the agelessness we experience inside. The gentle rolling fingerpicking is the perfect backdrop for this lovely lyric.

Sadly, I can relate to so many maybes here. Time is definitely running faster, and sometimes I feel like we spend too much time polishing the coal and diamonds, when we should be treasuring friends before they're gone! The guitar is wonderful and the lyrics are well-written.

Ooo I love this one! Great lyrics especially like the chorus. Nice guitar work and wonderful tune.

great lyrics, great performance. i like the honesty in the lyrics, I like this kind of music and genuineness. inspired me. i like the use of "maybe" that repeats itself and "maybe write a book about things i maybe did"~. congrats on your first song.

I relate to this maybe a little too much.

Classic modern storytelling folk style. I love this style and you do it so well! I love the final lines. Yeah if only we learned!

A nice, gently amusing song. The only wisdom I've picked up with age is that I don't get any wiser with age.

Great song, nice playing. Great lyrics.

I love that concept and the delivery, especially in the chorus. Nice melody too, and it sounds beautiful overall.

Good work! Love the truth herein and the reference to never being “as old as today”.

This is the first FAWM song I've listened to this year, and what a lovely place to start! There's such tenderness here, and that guitar is beautiful too.

Love the folky feel to this. The guitar is so comforting! I'm really loving the lower register you get into here, it's got a lovely warm sound. These lyrics are a gentle joy. Truth, I've never been this old, so how could I know how to act my age?

So many options! Hibernating feels like a good one right now.
