Here are my #firstfruits . I've been walking on newly-discovered paths near my home each morning. The Pine Barrens of New Jersey are filled with moss-covered paths that feel like secret ways. I imagine them taking me far away to safety.

Lyrics

Leaving
Jemma Kline

I am off on a misty winter night,
With the moon peering through the shrouded sky.
Follow faded marks upon the trees,
Feel the sand and moss beneath my feet,
Pray the fallen leaves will shelter me,
For I’m leaving.

I am leaving,
From my land and from my home.
I am leaving,
From the world that I know.

I must hide from the watchers on the wall,
Eyes of glass cannot see me where I crawl.
Secret passageway found long ago,
Through the sewer to the riverboat,
They won’t hear me as I softly row,
For I’m leaving.

I am leaving,
From my land and from my home.
I am leaving,
From the world that I know.

See the signs; see the eyes.
Feel the hate; feel it rise.
Before it washes over me,
I must escape; I must flee.

I am leaving,
From my land and from my home.
I am leaving,
From the world that I know.
I am leaving,
From my land and from my home.
I am leaving,
From the world that I know.
I am leaving.

Nice listening to a plan in the making and how to execute it. Positive and determined. The strum of the uke and steady voice confirm the plan.

So many want to relocate but are unable. Your lyric I plan on sending as a gift to friends who wish to move out of the country. You say things that they just have not been able to express.

This leaves me with so many questions! Hope you explore this story in more songs because I want to know more..

Your lyrics paint vivid images of the journey away from home and the familiar. The ukulele captures both the sorrowfulness of needing to leave what is known and the hope of finding new shelter and safety. - Natalie

Love the uke sound played plucked, it has a great lute-like sound and just perfect for this almost medieval ballad. Images of glass eyes, all the surveillance. Sadness there but also intention and not despair. Good stuff. (I gotta get a baritone uke. Gotta. Gotta.)

Oh I love the uke on this, love the playing style.

Wow, I need a baritone uke. It tickles the banjo part of my brain while sounding like some acoustic indie guitar at the same time. Love your voice too!

Lovely melody! The lyrics poignant. (And yeah, it scares me too.)

What a haunting tune. Lovely.

I love exploring these sorts of areas especially close to home where there's so many if you just look. This reminds me of doing that and wondering just where those paths lead. I especially like the chorus melody.

(Usually they lead back to the shops, it turns out. Oh well. It's still fun to look.)

The chords in the accompaniment really capture the sylvan stroll taking you away vibe
