Awaiting A Visitor

by @michellelyons

Liner Notes

A two minute intro track - an odd sort-of-ambient thing with an interruption.

The ambient bit was made using Sonic Pi, a programming language for creating electronic music. The other part was done using VSTs in Renoise. Both of these were exported from the respective applications and edited together using Reaper.

As I couldn't record any vocals tonight, I used a virtual Mac emulation to supply them. I ran a mid-late 90s model emulated over at infinitemac.org in Firefox to generate that very familiar robot speech. You may remember it from either Paranoid Android, or the stings from Chris Morris's Blue Jam.

If this is an intro, I'd love to hear where this goes! What a great start for a project, really cool and discomforting. Love how it returns to the same progression from the beginning, it's like you tapped into a frequency you weren't supposed to hear.

The switch from the ambient to the electro-rock-jam is really effective, jarring but cohesive. Interesting method of composition too, I haven't really messed with programming-language-music since some experiments with csound back when I was at uni.

Very, very cool! Love the sort of cyberpunk sound to it - also, I'm a programmer, and now I want to learn more about Sonic Pi as a potential composing resource :0

I hope whoever is awaiting this visitor is fully prepared to save the rest of us!

Really nice throw-back sounds and sensibilities and I applaud your programming language approach to music. It was something I once considered but, whew... it wore me out.

This sounds like the start of a series of tunes and I look forward to seeing where it goes.
