Eye of the Storm

by @daveyboy103

Liner Notes

I seem to write a lot about mortality recently, I guess it come with getting older.

When you are young you look forward with great optimism even if that optimism is often unfounded.

When you are older you look forward with great trepidation even if that trepidation is often unfounded.

Funny old world isn’t it?

Lyrics

Time is like a storm
Rushing to the sea
Never looking back at all
At the things that we have been

Here’s comes the morning light
Here comes the day
And all the things we feared
In the dark have gone away

When fear is in your heart
There’s a vice grip on your soul
And the only one who can ever win
Is the one who takes control

Never been afraid
To live life to the full
Now I see the clouds are parting
I’m feeling death’s dark pull

Here’s comes the evening light
There goes the day
And all the things we fear
In the dark are here to stay

When fear is in your heart
There’s a vice grip on your soul
And the only one who can ever win
Is the one who takes control

I’ve seen it all
Seen the great and the good
They don’t always do the things
That they know they should (2)

When fear is in your heart
There’s a vice grip on your soul
And the only one who can ever win
Is the one who takes control

Superb, Davey. I know exactly where your narrator is coming from on this one. I am 71 next month and that trepidation creeps on apace. However, when that comes on me, I remember a poem by an Irish poet in which he wrote about his similar fears - he was 60 at the time - He lived well into his 90s!

As we say on our birthdays in Catalan "Per molts anys" (for many years (more)

I love the deep, dark mood of this number. The subtle shift from close and personal to 'the great and the good', to me, makes the song stronger.

I dig your vocals full of honest emotion, and the sparseness of the instruments that really fit this track, only coming in more full for the "I've seen it all" stuff. The bass is great, real simple yet with a bit of a run here and there to join the chords of the progression.

Solid track, especially the piano voicings... puts me a bit in the mood of Nick Cave.

Turns out we're all getting older, I reckon... keep kicking and writing this beautiful stuff!
