INFLUENCE
Hearing influences of Radiohead, Zoo Story, & Jump Little Children, the latter 2 I've been revisiting recently.

MEANING
The song is basically about the inevitability of suffering: the only way out is through. I can escape the experience of suffering, be it mental or chemical, but I'm just "borrowing tomorrow's happiness today." At 40, I'm learning to accept the difficulty of life a little more, while looking to the present to choose joy, rather than expecting it to come over the next hill, after the next accomplishment or acquisition. Dry spells come, but they don’t typically last, and rain almost always comes just after it’s driest, if I hold out long enough.

PROCESS
Started with PianoTeq Stage trying out a Felt piano sound. Loved it. Inspired the vibe. Then reached for other purchased and seldom-used VSTi’s (a barrier I'm working through this FAWM!), starting with a Native Instruments Bass, then working through each one in my Output collection: Substance, Strings, Brass, Exhale, Rev, etc. Did very little to search for presets or modify sounds, so I can’t take credit for that. Played all the notes, though. The reverb was unmodified, so it’s a bit…swimmy. May revise based upon how it sounds on the phone. Sounded decent through VSX.

CHALLENGES
Learning a new DAW (Reaper) is killing me. I'm realizing how proficient I was in Logic. A decade and $1k in training vids will do that. And Reaper is supposed to be more efficient. Working on an older desktop which is supposedly more powerful, I can't even run Ozone at a 2048 Buffer size. Had to just trust it and output. I didn't have to freeze any tracks, and this project is heavier than any I've done for a long time in Logic, and I'm using Komplete Kontrol to make use of my new (old) 2014 S49 mk1 I just acquired for $150 at Guitar Center. Such a pleasure to play, but a real learning

Lyrics

VERSE 1
Been 16 days
All sun, no rain
These arid winds
They came, laid waste

Right now I'm breathin'
But barely that
Ask how much longer
Until it's past

CHORUS 1
Let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain

Take the pain
Till it goes away
Embrace the state
Seein' what remains

VERSE 2
Been here before
And got to the other side
It's there I know it
Beyond the blind

And if I keep breathin'
If only that
Can't last much longer
Until it's past

CHORUS 2
So let it rain
let it rain
let it rain

Take the pain
Till it goes away
Embrace this state
Till I remain

BRIDGE
'Cause the only way out is through
Through the void
Through the noise

And it's all that I can do
To choose joy
Here in the toil

CHORUS 3
So let it rain
Let it rain
Let it rain

Take the pain
Till it goes away
Embrace my fate
Knowin' I'll remain

OUTRO
Ah

TAG
The only way out is through
The only way out is through
The only way out is through
The only way out is through

@gbar
Another catchy beat and drive. Sounds like you're having fun being creative, and being able to express, as well. You've got some talent there, Andrew! Thanks!

I like the minimalism and sentiment of the lyric beautifully delivered subtle melody changes, great work i enjoyed the listen.

I also like all the little blasts at the beginning, the buzzing sounds further on, and the little screams in the middle. Great lyrics also.

those glitchy backward blasts (or whatever) at the beginning really pull you in... i can hear the "later" radiohead influence after reading the notes for sure, but not sure i would have picked that out on my own. standout lines for me were "And it's all that I can do / To choose joy / Here in the toil." nice atmosphere

Looove the way this sounds. I read the liner notes plus the disclaimer on your profile bio and must say, you are not letting the tech issues stop you from making some really cool sounds!! This is giving radiohead vibes in all the right ways and i love your harmonies too. I really look forward to hearing more!

Beautiful lyrics with a poignant and true message. The bridge is amazing especially with the vocal harmony. You definitely captured the essence of the mood - and being in the present moment is the most important thing we can do. ALWAYS choose joy. Love this one! Great job, Andrew!

This is so haunting and delicate. Love the vocal treatment on this, those long notes really draw you in. Lyrics are stunning and that choral outro…..wow!
