@nancycunning Haha, I love your take on this one. I threw that line in there about paying the price because of admission fees, and I justified it by thinking about all the things you have to do in a relationship to win over the other. But I really like your take even more in especially with the added context of the locked up / stealing part. I will definitely give that "MY mona lisa tonight" a drive and see how that feels!

Listening again I’m struck that one way to interpret it is as the singer’s enjoying the company of a paid companion. Maybe for a remake of Pretty Woman set in Paris. I want the last repeat to be “You’re looking like MY Mona Lisa tonight” There’s this cool way of leaning into the word Mona - that adds some overtones if Moanin’ Nice song. Fun to hear it live today.

I love that title line. I love the imagery and the simile in the lyric. A great angle on the prompt and a great vocal delivery, too.

this hits me like a unique spin on eric clapton's wonderful tonight, without the cloying sentimentality of the clapton song (which i love in spite of my critical objectivity)

The lyric put me right in the art gallery visualizing the proud new possessor of a just bought painting with a red dot on it. It's been a long time since I heard a Mona Lisa reference in a song and I love that the use of simile and how this turned into a love song. A sweet melody too. Nice one!
