Liner Notes

Before FAWM started I thought that I'd like to try my hand at funeral doom. I had almost forgotten about the whole thing already, but a talk with @povosos made me remember it again. I’m pretty sure the Esoteric influence is obvious, I love that band. So, here we are. I don’t know if it’s proper funeral doom, though. At least it should be ten minutes longer. And maybe slower?

As you can probably tell from the title, I drew heavily (as in, stole) from Charles Baudelaire for the lyrics. Also, I finally watched Hereditary yesterday, so that leaked in there a bit as well. Although the overall feeling of the song isn’t so much horror rather than sense of loss, I think those two lyrical inspirations go quite well with each other here, actually. I also like it how I accidentally made the first line of the first and last verse rhyme with each other, hahah!

Lyrics

Oh King of Pain
Burn my lungs
From your blood-filled might
We drink deep

The tears of martyrs
And their lamentations
Pave the way
Towards the abyss

Children of Cain
Do thy work
Plant the seeds
For flowers of evil

funeral doom! what a genre! loving the darkness in this engineering, the off kilter unexpected percussion at the beginning is so unsettling in a real exciting way. this is super epic, just plows on and builds, builds, builds—every entrance is such an event. awesome

Holy moly when the guitars came in with that tone! Pretty sure my eyes popped out of my head for a second. The clean guitar tone on top of the distorted one is bliss. I don't listen to a ton of metal, but reminds me of Neurosis.

I'm a big fan of Mournful Congregation so am well up for a tune with an FD tag. And, boy, does it deliver! The tension of being made to wait almost 2 minutes for the guitars is wonderful. As re the lyrics.
Damn. This is good.
I'm gonna have to do me one of these sometime soon...

Not sure I've heard the term funeral doom before. Sounds great, synths work really well with the brooding riffs. Great gutturals as well.

This is officially the first time I came across funeral doom. This is dark! Great heavy guitar sound. I don't know how you will manage to get this any slower. I think the tempo is just right. And awesome voice. I wish I could sing like that. Would be useful sometimes.

GREAT sounds, the guitars, keys, and vocals are all working really well together. The arrangement works nicely too, the parts flow into each other well and keep the listener engaged.

If it's over seven minutes, has heavy guitars, and isn't prog metal, you can legally call it "funeral doom" 😀
