A metaphorical city that will slide off a cliff someday.

My continuing quest to find the bridge between two 1970s icons, Bachman-Turner Overdrive and Yes.

Lyrics

[1]
One more house goes up
Before the sun goes down
Can’t stop won’t stop
It makes the world turn around

Like a well that pumps as planned
Every day till it runs dry
Streets on ground that stands
Eleven stories high

[chorus]
At the mercy of nature
No matter what we said
And the city keeps growing
City keeps growing
City keeps growing
Closer to
Closer to
Closer to the edge

[2]
We do what we will
To try to stabilize the base
But no amount of landfill
Has ever kept a cliff in place

No mountain climber
Has ever scaled the face
But still we believe
That we will win the race

[chorus]
At the mercy of nature
No matter what we said
And the city keeps growing
City keeps growing
City keeps growing
Closer to
Closer to
Closer to the edge

[chorus]
At the mercy of nature
No matter what we said
And the city keeps growing
City keeps growing
City keeps growing
Closer to
Closer to
Closer to the edge

I can see what you were trying to do there with the merging of Yes and BTO :-) Nice guitar part as well.

The stop start guitar really works - and I really like the chorus. :-)

I love the tension of the soaring melody on "Closer to the edge" - it really solidifies the vibe of the song. Nice skirmishing!
