Rachel says: I just loved the storytelling elements in Liz's lyrics - I think most of us can relate to the experience of being in relationship with folks who gaslight and recreate history and well, we're dealing with it every day on the national stage too, UGH. I came up with a folky/country tune that I hope captures the evocative nature of Liz's poetry! Recorded on one take on StudioOne DAW, please be gentle on my mediocre guitar skills LOL.

Liz says: I absolutely love the gorgeous music @racheleve gifted to these lyrics. She captured the predicament of the relationship with Majorie so well! A perfect melody, fabulous guitars, and gorgeous vocals - I feel so grateful and enjoy how a song was born from words on a page! Thanks!!!

V1
I had a history project
‘bout a decade ago
one that taxed my mind
one that crossed
every line

I had a history project
that is still memorable
one that challenged me
one that forged
every sea

PC
her name was Marjorie

C
she was a
history revisionist
an expert of the art
recreating stories
from bruised sides of the heart

she was a
history revisionist
a master of the trade
reinventing events
in self-destructive ways

V2
I had a history project
that frightened me away
one that had me shook
one that re-wrote
every book

I had a history project
that made me run from love
one that stole sanity
one that poked
every bee

PC
her name was Marjorie

C
she was a
history revisionist
an expert of the art
recreating stories
from bruised sides of the heart

she was a
history revisionist
a master of the trade
reinventing events
in self-destructive ways

B (spoken over music as if talking to a friend)
when I went to the grocery
to buy a loaf of bread
she told our friends
I was out drinking instead

when I went to the library
to check out a rare map
she told her sister
I had affairs in the stacks

when I went to the factory
to do my daily work
she told her parents
I was just being a jerk

L (sung)
she took the best from me

PC
her name was Marjorie

C
she was a
history revisionist
an expert of the art
recreating stories
from bruised sides of the heart

she was a
history revisionist
a master of the trade
reinventing events
in self-destructive ways

Fantastic collab here!! These lyrics are spectacular, Liz... I see the story in my head as I read/listen...I think thats what really good lyrics do. And then Rachel steps in and creates this awesome song with them. Impeccably interpreted. The music you wrote, the vocal delivery, were exactly in tune with the spirit of the words. I enjoyed every moment (thought I heard a little Joni Mitchell in there...)

What a jewel!!! @kahlo2013 your lyrics tell a perfect story, not a word out of place, not a word too many. And @racheleve i love the country feel and your delivery is just perfect. I can just hear you rueing the day you met her. Love the spoken section as well. would listen to this on repeat!

These lyrics are so evocative! I love the notion of a “history project” meaning someone you’re in a relationship with. Nice! And Rachel, I like the country vibe you created. It fits the story beautifully. I like the minor feel going on in particular.

Great idea the "history revisionist" - perhaps we all revision history in a way which suits us - or at least sometimes. Reminds me of dearest Joni in all the best ways. Listened to it a few times Rachel. Great.
