In South Africa there's a club style called "Amapiano". It's a little slower than House, but it's characterized by there being absolutely no kick drum. It only ever builds, and it's usually melodic.

It makes sense if you think of a generation of people listening to music on their shitty phone speakers that have no bass anyway. And it's a club scene where you could probably have a conversation, or at least be heard at the bar.

This is great. That vocal sting hits perfectly. I love the idea of this style with no kick. Pretty fascinating, but based on your description it makes absolutely perfect sense. This is so melodic and that bass is great ( love vital!)

Sick tune! I’d heard of Amapiano, but didn’t know what categorised it as it’s own genre, cool concept but where the piano at?
I listened to this through my phone speakers for an authentic experience, but then I got distracted looking at Insta half way through and then OMG my friend started telling me about how she got totally wasted at the club and be like….
Okay, headphones was a much nicer and calming experience. Tight mix, those side chains used to maximise effect, and that boppy rhythmic synth doubled up as the bass line is so hooky.
I’m pretty convinced you threw in a kick drum at the 1:56 mark for the drop, but maybe I’m just imagining things. Dope stuff

Beaut. I am unfamiliar with amapiano but it sure as hell took me back to being a teenager sat at cafe del mar watching the sunset ❤️ Thank you for evoking that memory guys!

Thank you so much for bringing amapiano to FAWM! I never figured out what made this genre sound so chill and groovy... guess they work with tonal drums and vocal samples instead of these heavy beats from the 90s?! Your track gave me these summer vibes. The vocals work great. Quality production too. Well done!
