Liner Notes

#answersong #acoustic #acousticpunk #postpunk

I had three ideas this morning and no motivation to work on any of them. A couple of good ones, too. So I went Fawm surfing (as one does) and I saw my friend Nick Davies had a song called "Recommend Me A Book." I immediately had the idea for an answer song. So this is an answer song to a song I've never heard. (But I'm off to go listen and comment now.)

A special thanks to the following people:
@ndavies for the unintentional inspiration
@pearlmanhattan for the endearing term "mangy asshole" *hugs*
@charliecheney for his wonderful acoustic one take songs so far this Fawm for inspiring me to try to be like him. (He's awesome but don't tell him, he gets embarrassed easily.)

Lyrics

Get your own fucking book
This one is mine
Don't ask me for nothing
I don't have the time
Get your own fucking book
I'm not gonna share
And if you're feeling lonely I don't care

I heard you were looking for a recommendation
You were looking for something to read
Well, I don't care for your communication (style)
I don't give a fuck what you need

Get your own fucking book
This one is mine
Don't ask me for nothing
I don't have the time
Get your own fucking book
I'm not gonna share
And if you're feeling lonely I don't care

Well, you might think I'm a mangy asshole
And I admit you might be right
But I'm gonna raise a banner up the flagpole
If you disagree we're gonna fight

Get your own fucking book
This one is mine
Don't ask me for nothing
I don't have the time
Get your own fucking book
I'm not gonna share
And if you're feeling lonely I don't care

Get your own fucking book
This one is mine
Don't ask me for nothing
I don't have the time
Get your own fucking book
I'm not gonna share
And if you're feeling lonely I don't care

Get your own fucking book
Don't ask me for nothing
Get your own fucking book
And if you're feeling lonely I don't care
If you're feeling lonely I don't care
If you're feeling lonely I don't give a damn!

This one had me laughing at the end. I like how someone who reads books is typically not going to be the one to use such strong language and emotion in a rejection, at least in my experience, so the contrast there is nice. Makes me think of a biker's bookclub. The upbeat tempo and energy throughout is great. My favorite verse is the mangy asshole one, but because of the line "But I'm gonna raise a banner up the flagpole
If you disagree we're gonna fight". This really gets to the heart of the song, this song aint about a book, but it can be about book if you wanna make it about one.

Very amusing :) I can relate, what kind of monster would ask to share a book! thath would just end in complete disaster!

@baxy
What's worse is when they borrow and don't return. I dig that silence after f'ing book - song feels quick, smells not of polish but of joy, but that silence feels meticulously crafted.

LOL I am so conflicted. On one hand, I want people to read the same book I am reading so we can talk about it but on the other hand...get your hands off my book goddamnit!!!!! But I am NOT conflicted on the passion you're bringing here for books. This was delightful fun!

😂 what a joy, a righteously indignant joy

All things considered, pretty jaunty, for an everyday act of unprovoked aggression.

Yep, a sure sign of a good song where I would never agree with the sentiment, but I'm walking around the office with the line 'get your own fucking book' going around in my head and veering dangerously close to my own vocal chords.

Also quite funny that the song crescendoes to a rude word which is less rude than the word that appears a dozen times in the lead-up.

I smiled while reading the liner notes -- this is a great response to a song you've never heard! It's gutsy and self-assured, just as one should be when they haven't listened to the person they're talking to. ;)

"(style)" cracked me up, like the binding of your book after I borrow it.

HA! This is hilarious. Keep your dirty mitts off my book!

HAHA This really has to be the best challenge ever! I absolutely love your idea and I'm laughing at your response to ndavies' recommendation request. I'm dying with every line here.... lol Fantastic!! LOLOL Thanks for the laugh! This is great!

Very fun, and I enjoy that you are embracing the "mangy asshole" moniker. It fit you :-)

Catchy chorus, great energy all around. The recommendation/communication rhyme with (style) stuck in there made me grin.
