DISCLAIMER: YE BE WARNED, THIS HERE’S A PROTEST SONG BY A FILTHY, FILTHY LIBERAL. I have no interest in arguments or debates, so if this isn’t for you, kindly move along! 😘

For World Ukulele Day, I brought this thought that’s been circling my head for several days into tangible song form. I’m very happy with how it came out.

Lyrics

Oh, what a fuss they’re making for their scapegoat of the week
History’s repeating, we are rapidly descending into tyranny
The democrats cry their hands are tied, then vote away their alibi
But for me & mine, our battle cry, it’s time to remind them

That no human being is illegal
Everybody has the right to live
Lest we forget, we all stand on stolen land
So reach out your hand and we’ll cancel his plan
‘Cause no human being is illegal

Our food, our clothes, our warm, safe houses, built for us by immigrants
What an asinine decision by our chief of politics
The democrats cry, they nickel and dime, but don’t bat an eye at white collar crime
But for me and mine, our voices rise, it’s time to defy them

‘Cause no human being is illegal
Everybody has the right to live
Lest we forget, we all stand on stolen land
So reach out your hand and we’ll cancel his plan
‘Cause no human being is illegal

Gay and trans and intersex, the rainbow mafia is the best
Every color represents a beautiful divergence
You can try to throw us aside, but through hell and fire we will survive
So hoist the flags, we will not be silent, It’s time to align now

‘Cause no human being is illegal
Everybody has the right to live
Lest we forget, we all stand on stolen land
So reach out your hand and we’ll cancel his plan
‘Cause no human being
No human being
No human being is illegal

Yes! This has such an upbeat feel and yet a very serious message. Cancel his plan for sure. Thank you

just shared some of your protest songs with my life. She loves them and so do I. Keep doing what you're doing!

Great protest song in the tradition of the Guthrie and Seeger with the playful happy catchy melody juxtaposing with the call to arms message.

"The rainbow mafia is the best" : such a cute line !
Well done ! You manage to deliver some hope in dark times :)

Cool lyrics and well written. I find the effect of a very jolly and happy melody and uke sound against the subject of the words very interesting.

Great protest tune! I love this... Fantastic lyrics and performance. No human is illegal. Hell yeah.

I could see this finding its way on a folk-punk compilation album. Good stuff.

This is fantastic! I've been finding I can only write protest songs at this point, and I really feel every line of this one. So well done, great combination of happy uke strumming, a beautiful melody, and powerful lyrics. And I'm in love with that bridge!

Pretty song about a very unpretty time. Thanks for this, you made something rough into a delicate piece.

Yep! One should remind oneself of that from time to time...

This is really excellent, catchy and sincere and full of important truth!

Beautiful melody. There's something about a well delivered and lovely melody delivering words the singer believes in that is very touching. I would think it would be hard to argue with the sentiment (although I'm sure someone will.) Good for you on writing this one.
