Liner Notes

Track #3 for the potential concept album.

Yeah, it starts out sounding like another funereal dirge... but that's not where it ends up.

So, this is another song that began as an attempt to develop a template. Few months back I spent far too many hours obsessively tweaking drum sounds, amp sims, etc etc. All I had was a two chord riff, pounding over and over. It wasn't meant to be a song - it was just meant to loop endlessly so I could tweak things like EQ and compression until I was happy with the sound, then I could use it as a template for some industrial rock stuff.

But I've been listening to a lot of Killing Joke lately, and I thought to myself, I wonder if I could turn that two-chord riff into a whole song?

So that's what I did...

It still needs a bit of work to introduce a bit more variation around the 2/3 mark, I think. And the vocal, well, it was mostly a harmony part but it was almost time for the school pick-up so I just did it once then again used a vocoder to recreate the harmonies. It kind of works as it is, though it's not my intention to leave it like that.

Uses Toontrack's Dark Industrial drums, Tonex guitars, Kontakt's Punkbass (through Guitar Rig 7), UAD Minimoog and FM8, ARP Odydssey, some Kontakt's Melted Vibes, Ovox, UAD plate reverb, plus lots of tape and console plugins...

Lyrics

the stars explode with colour and that sound
i'm loving life

the world could end and we would not care at all
i'm loving life

the sky above is bright enough without
a visitor

light of my life in darkness come
light of my life in darkness come

this day won't end if nighttime never falls
i'm loving life

light of my life in darkness come
light of my life in darkness come

driving and whacked out, the pulse in this is relentless.
crisp production for a killer riff.

Bringing all us three-chorders to shame with this two-chord riff. As Bill & Ted said, "Excellent!"

Holy shit, I LOVE that riff!
Totally get a KJ vibe off this. Just shows what 2 chords can do when you slap a grade A melody and some twiddly synth bits on top of it.
Can I second @emplate's request for more like this? ๐Ÿค” ๐Ÿ˜

KILLING JOKE! Last summer I got a complete KJ psychosis and listened to for instance Hosannas from the Basements of Hell almost compulsively. This definitely carries that spirit! Love the ritualistic feeling that simplistic and repeating riff creates. Can I get more of this?

Love the vocals with the vocoder ! A pretty cool outer-space rock song! The sound production is top notch!

You are absolutely tearing it up on the guitar in this song!!! I love the way you approach lyrics on your song and how they come to life in the music. What an absolute banger, probably my favorite so far! ๐Ÿธ

Rocking! Nice contrast and production!

Dig it! I like how "clean" the distortion is and the main punk riff is menacing.

Awesome riff. Great heavy guitar sound. Really loving where you are going with this direction.

Cool vibe, love when the guitars and drums kick in.

You did a good job fashioning that riff into a complete song. The tone of the guitar is fantastic. The vocoder gives it a bit a of a sci-fi feel, what with the robotic effect. An interesting listen.

hell yes! this rocks dude. cool intro. and love that riff when it comes in. itโ€™s so heavy. iโ€™d be interested to hear the vocal without the vocoder effect. nice job
