Skirmish: Call me! (@nightwing521)Liner Notes
My approach was to imagine a lonely disc jockey working the graveyard shift and desperate for human contact. Lyrics posted on time, but it took another 1:24 to finish the demo. I'm in #musical #theatre mode lately, so let me know if the wall-of-sound #pop #rock might be better with a quieter #singersongwriter or #personwithpiano approach. Oh, background info: yes, I was a dj at several radio stations, and it is hard to stay awake at 3am playing smooth jazz, and the dead air story is somewhat true. "Go Ahead, It's Your Dime" was the name of a talk show I hosted back when there were still pay phones. Thanks for the prompt for this #skirmish.
Lyrics
CALL ME (c. 2025 raspberry33)
VERSE 1:
I’m your friendly deejay On the graveyard shift
At an FM off the edge of the dial
I know that you can hear me here’s a free gift
Call right now; we can talk for a while
VERSE 2:
Exiled to the dark o’clock when most are asleep
The daily blur gains clarity at night
I’ll take your request you’re the very first in line
Call me, let me know that you’re alright
CHORUS:
Call me Call me It’s not too late
If you’re not ready, yet
I’ll sit and wait for you to
Call me Call me
Go ahead – it’s your dime
VERSE 3:
Sitting in B control clock ticks away
The witching hour has come and gone, but the loneliness will stay
The studio is empty the phone too silent today
So call me, and tell me what song to play
(Gratuitous instrumental here - points if you recognize either song)
There was dead air for 4 minutes when I fell asleep
I recovered by crediting John Cage
But I need some human contact to avoid counting sheep
Call me, keep me conscious onstage
>CHORUS
