I was trying to put my finger on what was most unsettling about thinking of venturing off-planet - I think it is the tangible pieces of the stories of us that I would miss the most.

Also, while Mars does have moons, they would be like bright stars in the sky. I would miss the moon and her light, like missing a part of myself.

Lyrics

no stoneware
no sea shells
no shark teeth

no fragments
no fossils
no farthings

no dry caves with ancient carvings
no low tides to go mudlarking
Mars has no stories to tell
Mars has no stories to tell
no reveries
no dreams were dreamed

no forests
no fairies
no felines

no marshes
no mushrooms
no moonlight

no curious creatures at home under water
no ancient ruins to wander, to ponder
Mars has no stories to tell
Mars has no stories to tell
no comedies
no tragedies
a tragedy

maybe Spirit and Opportunity
will leave tracks and gears and LEDs
on the desolate land, on the Martian sand
to be buried in time, for the future to find
Martian mystery
but Earth still calls to me
think I’ll die right here
and leave pieces of me
for distant discovery

no tombstones
no tailbones
no treasure

no flora
no fauna
don’t wanna
move to Mars

I too would miss the stories, and all of nature. But I am still not sure what we might find on Mars.

Quirky, playful, jaunty, and just a bit unsettling. Everything I love in a song about Mars☺️. The voice doubling and little forays into harmony really work well, as does all the alliteration. Best rhyme: ‘no flora, no fauna, don’t wanna.’ Brilliant!

Sounds like you got some little green men (or women) to help you with the backing vocals! :) I think some quirky electronic beats and synth sprinkles would be very fitting for this track.

Yes do much left behind. I can imagine us all sitting in our Martian encampment singing this together on a daily basis. And we’re adding different things we miss each day. Excellent.

A sweet reflection on the heaps and heaps of stuff that our planet what it is. A common theme in science fiction is how much we will the green and blue of earth when we move off planet. Enjoyed this from start to finish.

I also wrote music to the lyric "Death of Opportunity" to which @moonraccoon refers and yes, this does evoke that but also this is a very good song in its own right.

What a charming song - it put a smile on my face! The combination of the ukulele, your bright vocal harmonies and quirky lyrics make for very enjoyable listning. In lieu of shark teeth, pieces of me!

@moonraccoon now I need to write a song about taking my tailbone with me somewhere... and I need to hear your rover tune.

This a sweet and sincere ode to not only our love of home, but our need for it.

Though to be fair, we'll take tailbones with us, and also make a LOT of tombstones. That is, if we keep the American dream alive and leave it to the lowest bidder to make Mars-side respiratory devices.

The rover references make me want to dust off @stephenwordsmith's and my song about Opportunity :)

Quite trippy, @tippyteapot , in the sense that this write and knock-out tune gave me a traveling vibe to the far away.

Love your sense of melody, and the backing vocals. Feels upbeat and lighthearted, though the subject matter is deep. Planet B ain’t what it’s made out to be!

Nice,it came after I just read an interview with William Shatner about his space trip! He felt closer to earth rather than the wonderment of space. Really nice write and delivery!

I like the upbeat pop vibe and the doubled vocals and harmonies. The bright uke adds nicely to the vibe. A really interesting song topic and I like where you took it. Your melody took a lot of very cool twists and turns that my ears did not expect which I enjoyed!

Love this chill sound! Really nice melody and vocals paired with the uke! And the lyrics are great!
