Liner Notes

#rock #political #electricguitar This one was written a little differently then most of my other songs. I used a hollow body electric guitar (Firefly ES 330 copy) , figured out a chord sequence I liked, and then just recorded it, with no vocal. Sang 'dummy words' for a bit over the recording till I had the outlines of what I wanted to say and then just went for it. Added a lead guitar solo at the very end, and that's about it.

As for the lyrical content, no, that does not really reflect exactly what I'm doing at present- tho some friends of mine for sure are 'hiding the heads in the sand' (and part of me does not blame them)...this is kind of that message of no matter how much you filter out what's going on, some of it will seep in...

Lyrics

I’m vary careful, I’m no fool, I’ve sealed the windows and doors
Every opening, every surface is ready like it’s a war

The truth, you know, I just can’t handle,
the latest crazy Donald scandal
no news about how we’re mislead, no commentators or talking heads

No opinions on current events, except for weather or sports
No bloviating scandal writers, no news of the supreme court

The truth, you know, I just can’t handle,
the latest crazy Donald scandal
No op eds,no broadcast or network anchors ,
no podcasts or cable, no fools, no wankers

the poison gas can’t infiltrate, I’m not leaving it up to fate
I’m filtering out the negativity, I don’t want to know, I’m no longer free

No matter how many steps we take, some things you just can’t fake
I can’t fake that Im living in normal times, just wish I did not have to read the signs

Brilliant protest song. Love the pace and the cutting lyrics over that slightly dirty guitar. Great job!

It’s really too bad that we find ourselves facing this sh*t again. Even if it makes good fodder for songs, I’d gladly give it all up if we could go back to “normal” times. Very well written and produced.

The idea of tuning out for a while makes this a more universal message than the more common political commentary one finds in songwriting these days, which I found refreshing. It would be interesting to hear the vocal melody ascend at some point -- against the descending chords -- perhaps to highlight one of your great lines!

Love that approach to writing! Sometimes you just have to work at inspiration. And I really like your descending chord changes, very bossa nova. Me too: I´m tempted to just tune it all out so my head doesn't explode.

you are so good in this jazzy style. it is really a pleasure to to you sing like this. the rhythm guitar is strong and the solo is a killer. excellent track.

Love the chord choices you’ve put down here, it adds a slightly unsettling lightness to the darkness of your lyric which makes it all the more powerful I think. I feel ya on this one, brother…

Unfortunately, "the latest you-know-who scandal" is not determined by the day, but hourly. And the world still has almost four full years to endure.

I've wanted to write on this topic myself, but haven't found the way to complete the task. You found an interesting combination of chords to work with and then got the ideas to flow with the music. Now that you've done it successfully, maybe I don't have to. Subject to change, of course.
