Liner Notes

Every FAWM, I like to do at least one ukulele tune. These chords were originally written for a savasana in my yoga class, but it was asking for words. As soon as I sat down to write, the opening line—"If I could go back in time"—came out instantly.

I recorded this in one take—flaws and all—because getting through it start to finish was the real challenge. The first time I made it all the way, I decided that was the one. Also, I know the mic was a little too close, so it’s in your face with lots of plosives—but hey, that’s part of the rawness. 😀

Lyrics

Verse 1
If I could go back in time
This is what I’d do
I’d practice jazz piano
And study, “Kind of Blue”

Go all in on music
Give it all I’ve got
Find a way to make it
And have amazing chops

Chorus
Life is halfway over
Looking back I see
That I am the owner
Of my current scene

I am optimistic
I can use what’s left
With the time I’m gifted
To create and connect

Verse 2
If I could go back in time
This is what I’d say
“You’re a manifester,”
“So use your mind to make”

“Anything you vision,”
“And know it can come true,”
“Never ever listen,”
“To haters and the fools”

Verse 3
If I could go back in time
This is what I’d do
I’d tell my inner child
I’m in love with you

It took me years to get to Verse 3. Well said.

Dude, you pared back like this is actually amazing. The verse melody is a full on earworm.

This is a bop, Jim, a bop!

Dude your verse three punched me in the gut. You're a beautiful man, J, never change.

Man, these words hit hard 💔🙏

I can see how rocking back and forth between those chords would be very soothing for savasana. Pretty melody on top of the bright uke rhythmic strum, and really nice vocals too. What a beautiful message at the end of the song! I really enjoyed your acoustic one-take performance.
