2023 will be my 11th FAWM. It's the only time of year I dust off the DAW, break out the instruments, and write.

I recently got a tenor saxophone which I don't know how to play, but I plan to find a way to use it. I've never played a reed instrument before.

Got a few ideas for songs already but no concepts or themes for the year. Just want to have fun and collaborate.

@clioem
Aw, thanks so much James!

Oh wow, nice win Jim! I'm wayyyyy behind on listening, but I'm gonna come dive into your stuff in the next few days. Right now, going to bed.

Oh, and thank you for the condolences! It's still very hard to comprehend, really. Me and my spouse are sad beyond words and miss her terribly.

Thanks for the comment on "Silence is Freedom"! Black metal? Definitely. Screamo? Nooot so much, me thinks, but yeah 😀 There's actually several of us doing black, death and other extreme metal in here! From the top of my head, in addition to myself and @wizardbloodywizard, @sapient, @hmorg, @gromwaf and @eli666 at least make some harsh tunes.

Thanks so much for the comment! Much appreciated :)

Thank you for the very kind comments on "Peace If A Quiet River Flowing"

Great comments, thanks! Yeah I use the Logic Drummer as well, but usually just the single track version not the producer kits because I like to go fast and dirty and never come back to set them up for real. I slap a bunch of plugins on them and call it a day usually. The Live Drums preset in the logic compressor makes them sound MASSIVE and usually I’ll EQ a bit and add some Waves mastering plugin stuff to make them extra huge. I’m not a drummer so whatever is the fastest way to not spend 10 hours programming drums is good for me. Can’t ever go wrong with Kyle but I really like the brush kits, particularly the Austin one. I use those two a lot since I know how they sound to get what I want.

Thanks for your positive vibes on "Just The Gun". Arguably one of the most frustrating songs I've ever worked on. I spent more time and effort on that thing than all my other #fawm2023 songs combined (by FAR) and still...not quite right. There's something wrong with the mix but I can't figure out what. Anyway CHEERS! :-)

@clioem
Cocteau twins is quite the compliment, thank you!

¡Hola!

Ha, I think you're the first person to comment on the jello line. It was originally a placeholder but I thought it fit. And, yeah, I went a little overboard on the guitar playing, but if it ends up being "lights out" I gotta crank it one last time, right? That show is amazing, so I will take that as high praise. Here's to more music!

Really like this chill sound! Well done!

Thanks for your kind words on ‘ooo la la’! And isn’t it a great feeling when your own song grows on you? I’m not familiar with PJ Harvey, but I’m checking her out now! I’ve almost been in Atlanta 20 years now myself, and as much as I love it here, I don’t think I’d ever get used to the cold winters lol

Hi James,
I've written a lyric for consideration for the random collaboration. What's the best way to get it to you?

Thanks for the comment on Welcome Back!

I will 100% own that 90's grunge / alt-rock influence!

@clioem
Happy FAWM!

Hey James! Glad you're back around. I'm now fully expecting some sweet Kenny G LA rock from you this year! haha

The thing about it being a chore resonated with me. I felt like that from time to time when I worked in the industry. Found it hard to break back into it being a fun playtime thing instead of a thing you have to do now. Not even sure I'm 100% of the way there, tbh.

Still. Let's take another shot, hey? Who knows what'll happen?

Yes! Glad to see you here and looking forward to hearing your music. And of course would welcome any collaborations!

Heck yeah. Happy new FAWM!

James! You made it!
