Liner Notes

On the road this afternoon, and my optimism on recording a skirmish with a USB mic and An AKAI MPK mini on a laptop has evaporated into quiet frustration. My MacBook keeps popping up with an "audio disconnected" message every 20 seconds. So, this is probably an awful mix, but it is what it is...
Addendum (2/22) - Back home, able to listen to this on real speakers, and the mix is better than I thought. I used a Blue "Snowflake" portable mic that sounds nice and crisp. #political #rock #skirmish. And, I hope there are people out there, whether their pile of puzzle pieces is mostly blue or red, who appreciate we'll only see the big picture when we work together.

Lyrics

BITS AND PIECES
FAWM Skirmish 2-22-25
c. 2025 raspberry33

My buddy’s living room is chaos, true
His coffee table is a mess
900 puzzle pieces; two large piles
One mostly red, blues occupy the rest

He’s started on the edges, just one row
The picture right now is unclear
I’d like to help him but he says “oh no,
Not before we have another beer”

CHORUS
Bits and pieces but not enough clues
Though we already know who’ll win and who’ll lose
Bits and pieces ignore the fake news
And concentrate on fitting the pieces….together

VERSE 2:
We grab a beer and he relents a bit
OK, let’s see what we can do
There’s several pieces that I can connect
Following a swarth of blue

Meanwhile, he’s struggling to connect the dots
In the shrinking pile of red
I think a picture might soon emerge
As the islands of finished parts spread
>CHORUS

VERSE 3:
There’s now more pieces placed than in the piles
Amid the forest there are trees
Though every one is cut down to the stump
Now he’s aghast at what he sees

CHORUS:
Bits and pieces and now enough clues
To see who’ll be winning and who’s gonna lose
Bits and pieces assembled they tell the story
When all the pieces are put together

This is a splendid and thoughtful lyric, although I expected nothing less! Lovely take on the prompt. You're inspiring to try and be at more ambitious with my skirmish lyrics 😊

Very interesting. I especially like...
"Amid the forest there are trees
Though every one is cut down to the stump
Now he’s aghast at what he sees"
Great lines :)

Fantastic use of the prompt and what a wonderfully crafted extended metaphor for life! Really wonderful lyric!

The jigsaw puzzle is the perfect metaphor for this story. We know there’s a design but way too for anyone to say what it is.

Very clever! At the start I thought it was 'just' a story about a jigsaw, which reminded me of a great sketch in a Laurel and Hardy film. But then I saw that there was an extra layer of meaning. Great job to get the lyrics done in the skirmish time - look forward yo listening to the finished song once you get time to record it
