Pronouns - she/her

I'm Helen. I make #noisy #punk as well as some more #folky stuff. I am also starting my journey getting into sync licensing, for which I almost exclusively do #instrumental stuff, and love doing weird #sound_design.

I don't need people to thank me for song comments or even reciprocate. I go with a pay-it-forward kind of thing.

I do love to collaborate. That said, over the past few years, I've found myself getting overwhelmed as FAWM/5090 goes on, so am trying to be a bit more careful what I agree to do, in order to avoid letting people down. That said, if you want to collaborate, please do ask, but please don't be offended if I decline. I'm more likely to say yes at the beginning of the month.

I'm in 2 all-fawmer bands with @expendablefriend, @stewartscissor and @orinoco, and then in a 3rd band with someone who isn't a FAWMer yet, but I'm working on it.

Update 6/2/23 - I'm pausing my writing to prioritise practicing/learning songs for a gig on 17th Feb. After that, I'm back with a vengeance (and might do a bit in the meantime, but need to get up to scratch with this)

Thank you for the De La Soul nod. :) I appreciate the feedback!

Haha yeah, as an American with a lot of British friends, I would've thought in the UK you could say either "phone me" or "call me." And I think maybe even "ring me"? For us we strictly "call"! I had to change the original lyric in our other collab from "phone me" because it just felt weird.

@nadine
Thank you, Helen! Yes, I also contacted Andy as you're both before me in the chain. I guess my lyrics are closer to yours but I don't know who did the chords! I write it into my list and consider how to give appropriate credit. If the morph chain were much longer things would be too complicated....

@nadine
Hey, I'm still unsure of I shall record "Right side if the road" for real. On the one hand, I like the song and energy, on the other hand I'm quite busy and don't know if I can do a good vocal. If I'm allowed to do - How do I credit you properly outside FAWM? Its based on your "Thirty Years" song.

Thanks for listening to "Taken Alive" and "When You're Famous!" I arrived at "solipsism" by looking it up, too. It's one of those words! ;)

Grrr!
*shakes fist at capitalism yet again*
😬

@debs
Go for it, please! 😀

@debs
Hello dahling! Morph 2 is ready for someone new now, as a first timer dropped out. Would you like the spot? I'll switch you from Morph 4 to this one, if so! You'd be morphing this: https://write.fawm.org/songs/20132

@sph
Mmmh, bass clarinet is also very tasty... and not cheap.

@sph
Bassoon is such a cool instrument. When I played in orchestras (just school level) I loved how the lines of bassoon and cello were combined and me on double bass was allowed to fill up from below.

RE: Level One BG Music - YES! I love the imagery of a clumsy dinosaur :-D Thanks for your comment!
[avatar]
Thanks for weighing in on that second modulation idea in my song! I appreciate your thoughts (and listening!).

@nadine
After two years I just realised that I constantly misread your username. Helen Seveltwin could a great name don't you (and your evil twin) think?
[avatar]
@karan
WHAHAHA! 🤣🦆🤣
[avatar]
@karan
I totally share your prejudice against kazoos! Helga made me use it! 🦆
[avatar]
Thanks Helen!
I appreciate your help!

@nadine
Thanks a lot, Helen! I wanted to move away from the car theme just to see what other people come up with. My imagination is talking to an old lady who always wanted to be a racer and never did...
[avatar]
Thank you very much for checking out my first fawm song this year! I appreciate the kind words <3
[avatar]
@nadine
Thanks for paging me. Can you please send a mail with the chords?
[avatar]
Thank you so much for Zong-busting my first song this year! And thank you for your kind words.
[avatar]
Hi Helen, you're up in the morph3 https://write.fawm.org/songs/12729 . Recorded in free time, hopefully all you need to know in the liner notes, LMK if questions or info needed 😀
[avatar]
Thanks for all you do here, Helen.
[avatar]
Ha! Well that sounds dreadful and also intriguing and potentially charming. I look forward to the demo track on the CD release :)
[avatar]
Hi Helen. Thanks for being my first comment in my fawm challenge this year. It really meant a lot to know you liked it.
[avatar]
@clioem
Hi Helen, excited to hear your sounds!
[avatar]
I would have a go at Easter if I were you, all those rabbits and eggs.
[avatar]
A definite Christmas theme to your Bandcamp
[avatar]
Hey how are you Helen?
[avatar]
Hi Helen,

Yes, the update's from this year.
I burnt my arm a couple of weeks ago whilst trying to squeeze the air out of a hot water bottle.
The top wasn't on, and I squeezed the boiling water out instead.
So it might be lyrics only at first, but I'm hoping to do something at some point this month.

Take care! :)

@pooka
Rock.
[avatar]
Hello to you Helen! I hope that all is well in your world. Looking forward to hearing your music again this year!

@mal
Hello. <3
[avatar]
That Mooer pedal is rather tasty...
[avatar]
Good morning, Helen. Or afternoon, I suppose. *hugs*

@aeye
Happy fawm!!

@beej
Not long to go now! Let's rock it
[avatar]
Yay! Happy new FAWM! Have a great month! (And thank you for all your help modding!)
[avatar]
And here we are!! Welcome back and I am very much looking forward to whatever you make (and hopefully something WE make). :)
[avatar]
Hi Hellie. Thank you for your services as moderator. I hope your duties still leave you plenty of time to rawk - and, as ever, my lyrics are here if you need them :)
[avatar]
Hellie!!!
🤘🤩🤘

@max
Thanks for being one of the super friendly moderators on FAWM. Have fun Helen. Make sure to produce some noisy punky folky stuff and enjoy the instrumental + sound design journey.
[avatar]
Hey! I got a guitar icon! Yay!
[avatar]
Heya Hellie!
