Please feel free to critique, as it helps me to learn.

I am going to do FAWM23 very differently this year, as my schedule until May is really full. So, I am going to cram a bunch of songwriting into a few full days with a couple of people. So, I probably will have 12 hour days twice. One with my brother and another with a good friend. Very different but I’m looking forward to it. I will also be doing the 4 track challenge on a couple of cassettes, the video collab challenge, and probably some loop tapes and/or midi composition. We shall see what happens.

I play what sounds good to me. FAWM is fun because I have complete control, for better or for worse. My goals this year are to improve on my mic choice and placement, mixing/eq-ing, and hopefully encourage as many of the people around me to be a part of FAWM to any degree, including my wife and two sons, if possible. I also would enjoy collaborating again with my brother, @zecoop (thank you for getting me into this), as well as others who are interested. Writing another children's song with my boys is another goal; I did manage to reach that goal the last several years and I just love doing it. In terms of songwriting, I would like to start with basics and build from there. I tend to be very chordy and would like to give my songs some more space for layering of sounds and texture.

I truly admire the creativity in others and am energized when I am fortunate to have a spark myself, too. I also do appreciate collaborations and will do whatever I have time for.
*A note about collabs: If someone wants to collab on a song that I've posted, I am fine with that and will post it separately. I also am fine with multiple people doing the same song, as I find it fascinating to see how different people do very different things with the same music. My wife always gets the first choices on songs, of course.

Hey, thanks for checking out my stuff this year, and glad we were able to nail that video collab and keep the streak alive. Keep rockin', dude
[avatar]
@cts
Might want to check that spam box, matey!

@cts
You've got mail, amigo...

@cts
Thank you for taking the time to listen to my offerings. I really do appreciate it. I want to know if you'd be interested in doing something with me for fun. Have I piqued your interest? 😀
[avatar]
yeah i defo missing a few this year, and had to go back and reacquire a few but i have such a huge watch list i know i am still missing a few i can't put my memory brain on. Having said that i loving the new layout.
[avatar]
ha ha yeah i landed back from thailand and managed to flow into a crazy flow of songs falling out of me. Took me over a week to get over jet lag as i was too awake with making music ;-) . its been a strange FAWM feeling like i only really started with 1 week to go, but lordy it was fun. I was so close and had some ideas for a few of yours matey. But i downloaded a couple for possible post fawm collabs.

@nadine
Thanks for listening and commenting! I'm happy that you enjoyed.
As I'm also not into vampires, I decided that I won't turn "Just one bite" into a song. But if somebody feels inspired, go ahead! I'm still trying to find the right voice for "Carry me home". All other projects will happen. Some earlier, some later.

@gb9
Thank you for your kind comments and lovely thoughts on 'Try' and 'Feeling'

@pippa
Thanks for the clarification of the 4-,track cassette process, guatecoop. it does sound like fun! And that sure is a moving memorial piece you guys made. Complimenti.
[avatar]
50/90 is good to pop into when you feel like it. Like going to a cheers bar, whenever you turn up you see a few old friends without any obligation. FB just doesn't do that very well !
[avatar]
@gb9
Thank you for your kind comments and appreciation of 'In The Swoop'
[avatar]
@cts
Thanks for checking out the song. It wasn't so much the music per se, but just the overall flow of the song. I was trying to break the song up into 3 distinct parts (mugging, kidnapping, escaping). Wasn't sure if it worked or not. I think I will leave it alone for now and fiddle with it during 50/90 should the opportunity come up.
[avatar]
Thanks man! I’ve got you watchlisted already - lots for me to catch up on as well!
[avatar]
Thank you for your kind words about Tell Me You Love Me. They're much appreciated.
[avatar]
I can't say how much I appreciate all your recent comments! Thank you for checking out my music. Your feedback was really fun to read -- I always like hearing what's working for folks. Also, I know exactly what you mean on "You Give Good Text." It IS a bit suggestive. Like, hey, if you want to keep texting...maybe go ahead?! ;)
[avatar]
Thank you for the kind words on my song! I greatly appreciate it <3
[avatar]
Thank you for the thoughtful comments on our songs! Will be listening and commenting on lots more of yours this month! ❤️
[avatar]
I love the drum track you added to Tape 8! Lots of energy and builds throughout to a nice finish. Glad to be on a tape with you this year and I look forward more 4 track fun next FAWM.
[avatar]
Alright, I've got some lyrics written and a vocal melody together in my head for Malaise. I just want to check to make sure this is still something you want to do, re: Video collab, as we are now on March 2, and I know motivation tends to plummet at this point. If you still want to do this, let me know, and if you changed your mind or feel like you are done, let me know as well.

If we are greenlight, who would you want in on the collab, or would you rather I throw lead guitar, vocal and video on it and be done?

Peace,

-Siebass

Thanks so much for all the kind words this evening. I didn't think I was going up to 5 with #tit4tat but I'm glad you enjoyed. Please forgive me if it takes a few days to get back at you. I promise I will, but I've got a (long) list or reciprocal visits before #tit4tat listens even begin and I'm finishing work on the last track on Fire Dog Fire. I'll be back. Hugs.
[avatar]
Thanks Rob! I've sent you an email about the song, if you can please share with me the file. :) Have a good rest.
[avatar]
FAWM has been rough this year for a variety of reasons. I'll get a couple done by the 28th (and that's a couple that weren't there before). Also hoping Tape 8 gets completed and posted. Looks like you've been productive despite having to do things differently this year. Well [email protected]
[avatar]
Yay!! Can you email me the track?
[avatar]
Needed to be done. Some folks just love throwing gasoline on the fire...
[avatar]
I would mate but its marked private :-)
[avatar]
@leepat
cool, no rush, cheers!
[avatar]
@leepat
Hey, I’ve sent you a mail, just checking if it went through.
[avatar]
Thanks for your comment on Can We Start Over, if by high voice you’re thinking about the synth parts in the chorus it’s a combination of a Juno60ish sound on my Korg Minilogue and the Moog Prodigy tweaked to a quacky sound.
[avatar]
Thanks for commenting on my song "Swept Away".
[avatar]
@cblack
Glad you liked "Colder"! It was fun to make, yes. 😀
[avatar]
Hi thanks so much for checking out my songs and your positive comments and ideas! Much appreciated 🙏👍
[avatar]
@leepat
cool! i've got a lyric - will try to send you some vox tomorrow.
[avatar]
Hey thanks for reaching out about the NOLA tune, the song is written, trying to find time for the wife and I to capture it quick, hopefully this week and then I can send it over to you!

Re: tape 8 - All good. I got sent your address immediately (twice!) Going out today Priority. Monday at best.

@muz
Hi there and thanks for your very Big Welcome! That's what I like about FAWM - it's sheer friendliness vibe. Yeah, I'm surprising myself with writing as many songs as I have! I've tried writing songs before and they were uniformly Disasters and I don't think I got beyond more than a few lines. I think learning to write poetry has definitely helped. When @wobbiewobbit tried to persuade me to join FAWM. I told her 14 songs in one month is a Big Ask! And she reassured me that even just one or half of one is ok. It's just getting involved that counts.

Again, thanks for your appreciation.

Most of the protesting is actually in the more remote parts of Peru. Tourists were stranded at Macchu Pichu because the road to Cusco was blocked. And Arequipa has been in perpetural turmoil. i am on the northern edge of LIma, but the protests here are in the center of town, at the presidents Palace, the US Embassy. etc. Here is the story. The day before president Pedro Castillo was to be impeached for giving jobs to his relatives, he attempted to dissolve the congress. His mistake was not making sure the military would support him, They supported congress and hauled him off to jail, and vice president Dina Boluarte assumed the presidency. since she had the support of right wing adversary Keiko Fujimori (who had lost the election to Castillo by less than 1% of the vote), Castillos supporters denounced her as a traitor and called for a new election immediately, And that is what the protests are all about. Like the US, the country is evenly split between the so called right and the so called left, which is a recipe for civil war. as neither side has a mandate, and the opposition is as strong as the government. My worry is not from the protesters, but being in the wrong place at the wrong time and being arrested, as non citizens are not allowed to participate in protests and face deportation if caught at the scene of one.Also, the roads throughout Peru are unsafe so we had to cancel our vacation in Ilo, a fishing village near the border with Chile where we lived for one year.

Thank you for being so helpful with your critique of my blending styles and genres. I think it's a good thing too!

@aholla
Thank you for all your comments and reviews on the music! Since we are not too far away from each other maybe we could grab some time either at the end of FAWM or after to collaborate.
[avatar]
Thanks so much for commenting on Feeling The Tucson Sun. Glad you liked it!

Heya, Rob! Thanks for the lovely note on my Soundboard. Let’s hope I can find the space and the voice to get a few out there. Looking forward to listening to your inspirational creations!

@aholla
Thanks for the message - I took a break between FAWMs but finally back and excited to be here again.
[avatar]
Yeah just noticed, we’ll at least get one collab then 🙂
[avatar]
Hi guatecoop! 👋 Excited to be on the video challenge together - send me an email sometime (it's on my profile) so I can get a thread going for the group 😀
[avatar]
@cts
Howdy! Thanks for stopping by and saying hello! Your situation is similar to mine in that I've got A LOT of personal work to do. Not sure how I'll finish out FAWM, but I do know the 4 track challenge is going to be in the mix for real. Aaaaaan Mr. Scroops has the jump on me right away! LOL! All good. Have a great time!
[avatar]
👋👋
[avatar]
Well I certainly HOPE we get up to some mischief again....let us make that happen. Can't wait!
[avatar]
Cool! Looking forward to hearing the final product.
[avatar]
Hi, nice too see you here again! Waiting for your fresh tunes!
[avatar]
thanks for your message, and back at ya! great to see ya here!
[avatar]
Hi, Rob, and official FAWM greetings to you, too! Your 2023 FAWM plan sounds exhilarating. Mine is loose, but I have a few collabs on my docket, including one with your dad.
[avatar]
Great to see you back and I'm looking forward to what you come up with!
[avatar]
i dont believe i have extened an official greeting to you either..so here is a welcome and wishes for a bountiful crop,
[avatar]
@roddy
Thanks for getting in touch. Great that you are here. Look forward to hearing your music.
[avatar]
Hey Rob, thanks for dropping by, really touched! No great plans this year, but really want to do a concept album again as I recognise those songs stay with me more… I don’t have a concept idea though, ha ha! Looking forward to hearing your output this year 🙌
[avatar]
I am well, thank you! Wishing you the same.
[avatar]
@toms
Thank you, you too!!!!
[avatar]
Wotcha mate. Sorry to hear your Fawming will be so limited, but restrictions are often excellent for stimulating human ingenuity/ creativity. I can testify to that. Will be back in Feb to listen.
[avatar]
Hi Rob. 👋
So good to see you here again. I'm looking forward to hearing what you come up with. 😊
[avatar]
Oh it’s cozy alright. Most would agree a dedicated recording space is more ideal but having lived in one for a while, I think I’d have to install a queen sized bed somewhere if I ever built a studio.
[avatar]
@oddbod
Likewise- have a good one
[avatar]
Happy FAWMing!
[avatar]
Hi Rob! Thank you for thinking of me. I’m out this year - using all my creative energy with work. I have none left for songwriting 😔.
I plan to hang out and listen!
[avatar]
@audrey
Hey guatecoop, well I always like to try something new each FAWM and this year, I'm going to take a big leap for me and try to figure out how to collaborate. DragonDreams seems to think we can work something out, so I'm hopeful. I'm not very technically adept, but I can create tracks with Sibelius, so we'll see. I also create scores for everything I write, so for anyone who can read music and is willing to play, change or add to any part of a score, that might work too. Fingers crossed. I like your goal of trying to encourage as many people around you to create something on FAWM and join the party. The more the merrier!
[avatar]
Hehe….. yeah, I thought I ought to take advantage of the TV fame and notoriety 😁….. Someday when the TV show “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooperider” comes to the networks, you’ll have choices to make 😂
[avatar]
@audrey
Hi guatecoop! Happy FAWMing.
[avatar]
@piney
Greetings to you too! I hope you have an awesome FAWM!
[avatar]
Have a great FAWM with whatever time your can scrounge up Robert - looking forward to hearing your music as always! All is well here - and I hope with you also.
[avatar]
Good luck with your creating schedule. Looking forward to seeing some of your work.

@gm7
Greetings..let the musical madness begin. Have a great FAWM
[avatar]
Freak.

Greetings, my friend! Have an inspired FAWM!
[avatar]
Hey hey hey. Sounds like you're going to have an interesting FAWM! Look forward to hearing what that produces
[avatar]
Good Morning Rob, things are "going" and I'm going with them. Yes I hope we can do something together again this year, no pressure. My FAWM will also be diffierent this year, I'm sure of it... but that could be good, let's just see what comes.
[avatar]
@karan
Have a wonderful FAWM, in spite of being so tied up with other obligations! The idea of full-on songwriting days sounds great! 😀
[avatar]
Hey there! Happy FAWMing to you!!!
[avatar]
Hey Rob, appreciate the message! I'm such a sucker for huge productions, it'll def be a challenge to strip it down to brass tacks as my gramps used to say. I think some productions will sneak their way in anyhow. haha! Looking forward to your music this year!
[avatar]
i feel like i watched you build that new studio, well i did a little bit! looking forward to hearing what comes out of it!
[avatar]
@max
FAWMseason greetings. Looking forward to hear coop-family doing children songs.
[avatar]
Things are going okay, my life just like everyone else’s has it ups and downs, but mostly on the upside these days thankfully
[avatar]
Hey! @zecoop reminded me that it was almost fawm time!
[avatar]
I can send you something within the first few days and you can see if you become inspired and find some time, if not no stress.
[avatar]
@beej
Best message I’ve read so far this fawm! Thanks dude! Yeah I reckon it’ll be whatever comes out!
And you? What will you do? Dare we collab? 😱
[avatar]
So great to see you back! I hope you have an amazing FAWM and fingers crossed I won't have the issues with a computer that I did last year so maybe a collab this time around!
[avatar]
Hi Rob, looking forward to hearing new tunes from you. If you’re schedule this year hadn’t been so tight it would have been fun to do something together, but there’s always next year 🙂
[avatar]
Great to see you here and would love to work with your music again this year.
[avatar]
Good morning, nice to see you. Looking forward to next weekend. :)
[avatar]
I bought cheap overheads (Rode M5's) and I've heard good things about the Glyn John technique. I haven't gotten the tone I like out of my vintage Slingerland shells though I love their sound when I'm sitting behind and playing. Going to try placing the SM57 underneath to get a little more snare but I'm almost out of ideas with the kick. Maybe I'll do the same thing and put one behind it as well, why not.

I've been getting my cleanest guitar sound from my practice amp—a single 10" Super 8 by Marlboro from the 70's or 80's. I have a few new pedals to go with. I've relied heavily on Logic Pro's amp modeler and digital effects but I'm moving away from it.

I've had a lot of fun with my Pocket Piano by Critter & Guitari. The arpeggiator and delay pedal combo has been super fun.

Any new additions to your setup?
[avatar]
G 2the Coop! So glad you'll be around this go around! I'll be on the lookout for your concentrated activity. You say mic'ing and mixing is your target improvement area this year well me too so I will be very curious to know how you improve upon your already super effective methods, if you're able to share. Happy FAWM time!
[avatar]
Good to see you and your constraints are noted.
[avatar]
Here. We. Go!!! Love you brother!
[avatar]
Nice to hear from you and looking forward to listening. Happy FAWMing!

RIght back atcha. :)
