1st March update: Wow, the closest I've come to not hitting 14 since 2015 (I think) but I'm pretty happy with how the month panned out. I think I've managed to up my production game and I've definitely been more productive. I usually end up with 15 or so unfinished tracks that I've started and abandoned but I've only got four this time.
I'm glad I managed to sneak in a collab with @vomvorton but I wish I'd got a few more in. Time kinda ran away from me (hence the scraping to 14) and I left it too late to reach out.
My listening's really suffered with the rush to finish but I'll be sticking around for a while yet to reciprocate comments, so if you've commented on any of my songs, thank you so much for taking the time to listen and I'll try my best to make sure I get through everyone.

He/Him (Dan)

A quick recap of my year:

Did Spintunes, had fun. Judged Nur Ein, had fun. Recorded some covers for PRF Monthly Tribute, had fun. Ended up seeing a frankly ludicrous number of bands, had fun. Got Covid, did not have fun. Built a kit guitar, had fun.

I've grown a bit bored of writing Serviettes songs recently, so I've been accumulating songs for a couple of different possible side projects. Expect a mix of fuzzy dreampop and spooky folktronica.

Been listening to: Gwenno, Perfume Genius, Sun's Signature, Deserta, King Hannah, Makaya McKraven, Jonathan Bree, Julia Julia.

Thank you for listening to "I Remember Dying" -- I mixed and matched the jazz chords from some old standards. Glad it worked to give it a classic feel.

@nadine
Thanks for your comment on "No Time For Blues". The guitars in this draft are MIDIs and loops, cause I cannot play the chord type needed. And I don't have an electric guitar...

Thanks a lot for your comment! šŸ™‚

Just finally getting caught up on comments from February. Glad I found your page - really cool stuff here!

Can I just say that CAT BUTCHER is a genius name. :D
Oh, and I *wasn't* thinking about The Master and Margarita, but I wish I had now (what a book that is!) Could've had a whole extra verse out of that.

Thank you so much for comment on ā€œFrench Martiniā€ and Spotify suggestion!

Thank you, @sailingmagpie so much for taking the time to not only listen to a bunch of my songs, but to give such lovely and thoughtful comments. I'm VERY happy with the Roxy Music comparison (I ran that by my wife, as she's the Roxy fan, and she totally agrees!), and I'm glad you appreciate the fun (and potential improved search engine rankings) of name-dropping all those famous people in We're All Gonna.

@voydra
Cheers for your feedback. I shall now be the inaugural artist that creates "Creepy Bangers" from now on.
[avatar]
I did not know that! Wow, what a change of direction for her.
[avatar]
Massively enjoying your foktronica this year. Just noticed Gwenno on your profile. Saw her last year and absolutely fell in love.
[avatar]
Thank you so so much for all of your lovely comments. It’s been a rough February so I have barely had time to create or listen but I so appreciate it. ā¤ļø

Thanks, @sailingmagpie - I wasn't sure how to hashtag this song, so thought silly ones would be best :)
It was funny singing with the robots. They are a laugh a minute.

The Bryan Cranston one rules.

My top 5, probably:

Clyde Bruckman
Beyond the Sea
Cher
Triangle
Humbug

My only mistake on this glorious semi-rewatch was that I also decided to watch Millennium. I did not like Millennium. And yet for some reason I made it through two full seasons before giving up.
[avatar]
I *loved* that Cher episode. I've been keeping track of my favourites as I go through the whole series and that's definitely in my top five.

@mk2021
Hey there. Thanks for the comments on my tune.
[avatar]
I’m glad you commented on my tune (thanks šŸ™‚), so I could discover your stuff. You definitely have your own style with music and words, and I like it a lot.
[avatar]
Hey thank you for the comment on Apocrypha šŸ˜€
[avatar]
Thank you for your comment on Rumours Dan, glad you liked it.

@muz
I like the sound of dream pop. Do the Cocteau Twin's Treasure count as dream pop/indie?
[avatar]
@muz
I'm glad the anger and the rage came across. That's how I feel about forty years of market fundamentalism aka neoliberalism. When I look at the UK, I see just how lacking in vision Thatcher was. Yeah, I like that couplet too.

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback on Sad Seed!
[avatar]
I would like to thank you very, very much for your kind words on the Italian song...
[avatar]
Thanks a lot! I must admit I did have to wikipedia the term to see if dinosaurs were actually alive at that time! :P

Hi
Thanks for your kind support on Albion, I always really like the word seething too ;'-)
I also have a thing for standing stones, so I checked this out and enjoyed your mystical musical musings muchly.

@tomski
Btw, great work on Struggling. What a banger that song is!

@owl
The title ā€œBlind Futurismā€ was something my husband said yesterday complaining about his cousin sending a message to our group chat hyping up some kind of marijuana blockchain crypto shit (this cousin also loves Elon Musk and NFTs)—ended up thinking about it as a metaphor for going into relationships or making life decisions with naive optimism that the laws of the universe won’t apply to you, the lyrics are definitely a bit oblique but hopefully that helps decode them a bit! I didn’t want to actually write about 420 crypto.
[avatar]
It is, I hadn't seen it in probably 20 years and I really enjoyed it. Rewatched Trainspotting too and Keith Allen shows up as the same character, it's almost like he's not acting at all šŸ¤”
[avatar]
Haha you got me! Guess who has two thumbs and rewatched Shallow Grave last week? šŸ‘šŸ‘
[avatar]
Welcome back!!! Let's make some great music.

Just found you through FAWM and loving the Branches Scratch the Sky album. I love music that is unusual and unexpected, but still musical and engaging. You nail it for me.

@tomski
I’m sure we can sort something out!
[avatar]
Hey there, likewise! Not sure how much time I'll get this year but if I can manage two or three I think I'd be more or less happy with that 😊
[avatar]
Hello! Congratulations on all the fun you've had!
