I've been in a surf rock mood lately. For the first tune this year, I just decided to rip out some surf, and here we go. Single take solo fun.

It's a basic Em pentatonic riff, guaranteeing I'm ripping this off from someone. The little melodic dip at the end of the riff is me having fun with the Bigsby clone on my Ibanez Artcore, which is a Gretsch clone. Lots of cloning on here.

The "vocal" here is a little tribute to Los Straitjackets "Caveman", from their 1995 debut. I wouldn't be shocked it the riff were from that album too. I briefly looked for a sample of a good frog ribbit, but sometimes you just gotta do things yourself. For a little extra fun, I added a vinyl effect to the master with a little 60's era warping and machine noise. It's subtle, but I'm happy it's there.

In any event, it's fun to just jam on pentatonic riffs now and then.

Great sound! A fun way to start. The beginning of the main melody does vaguely remind me of "Pipeline" by The Chantays, but it goes in a different direction.

I can almost feel the wind in my hair as we drive from the beach to the diner in the 1950s, up to no good as night falls and we roll cigarette packs into our sleeves. Adore the "ribbit"s, they made me chuckle each time. Not to mention the great solo work and all the stylistic flourishes that make this just what it should be.
