Liner Notes

Nancy: Singing along to these lyrics of @wsharper69 reminded me of discovering What Can You Do With a Drunken Sailor in an early piano book. Both songs are so embodied. Thanks for the invitation to include my recording. I'm imagining a whole ships crew of instruments and voices playing and singing along, in case anyone wants to add any more tracks...

I thickened the original lyric up a little - mostly by repeating the wonderful palindrome Red Rum, Sir, is Murder - which seemed to become a tongue twister the more I repeated it.

Lyrics

Hey you, yeah you
Sir what is it you're drinking?
What's your poison?
Is it Gin what a sin
Red rum, sir, is murder
Hey you, yeah you what is it you're thinking?
On the rocks
Stirred not Shaken
Red rum, sir, is murder
Very scary, bloody mary
Can you add a side of bacon
Red rum, sir, is murder
Taqueria add tequila
Add a worm to make you squirm
Red rum, sir, is murder
Have you not heard
Red rum, sir, is murder.

This is so much fun! I like the way you slightly rearranged/repeated the lyrics, very effective.

So fun to hear a palindrome song! I don't always recognize them on the page, but something about hearing them sung, is a whole difference experience. What fun!

I love how you made it sounds like a workers' song, wich were made at a time when workers were served rum during their long hard working time just to keep up.
Very vivid imagery in those lyrics. I'm never gonna see the red liquid flowing in "the shining" the same way. Si is a very large bloody mary now. Deal with it, Stanley.

Wow. Your voice is so cool! Love the acapella vibe going here with the finger snaps. I see your looking for music, but I'm not sure it needs it. This sounds like a well-thought out complete piece. Thanks for sharing.

Love the cadence/rhythm vocal clarity in the stripped down version, great write and performance!

Very creative and catchy tune. Love the minimalism of the track - nice vocals!

Great job on this one. The flow is perfect for the acapella treatment and without a doubt can picture a whole crew singing along, but Nancy you really kill it all by yourself. Nice play on the palindrome challenge. I feel the sudden urge to steal a boat and plunder some rum.

Yeah this would be cool with lots more instruments and voices but it's also awesome as just Nancy.. lovely hearing an acapella song and the lyrics are so clever

I like the a cappella, snapping simplicity of it, matched with the clever palindrome, which leaves room for the imagination to add to it...I hear a bunch of pirates singing it. I like the idea of leaving room for the imagination, actually. Well done!

This is a tune they could sing at an AA meeting! This one brought back some memories of nights I can't remember! Well done!

OMG! I didn't even notice the palindrome. Which reminds me ... my fake liquor store ID when I was 15 was Fred Otto Derf.

I love what you have done with these interestingly quirky lyrics. I love the sailor vibe, which is absolutely perfect. I wish it kept going a few more rounds :) Super cool collab!

hahaha...this cheered up my dull afternoon. Well done to you and @wsharper69

Awesome job. You gave my lyrics life. Great voice also. Thanks

This would go down very well in a folk club in a pub. Great singalong line.

Those would be such a great shanty with many voices.

Fantastic delivery of a great set of lyrics, it has all the odd angles, dips and curves of a classic folk blues number. Your phrasing is full of lift and spin!

Reminds me of an Irish drinking song. Ha! Nice!

@wsharper69 - the recording should be there now. Thank you!

@jackdawfactories thanks for the comments

@nancycunning I would love to hear your accapella improv of this. Thanks for the comment

I had fun singing along in my head in my kitchen this morning, and recorded a one-track acapella improvisation. I'm happy to send it to you if you'd like. If I was picking a collaborator for this one, I'd pick @berni1954 to do a rousing sea-shanty style song.

These lyrics are fun, they've got a similar cadence to Drill by Wire, which is one of my favourite lyrical fun rhythmic pieces.
