Liner Notes

A very silly one for this #skirmish that I joined 30 minutes late, but it felt appropriate for song number 13 of this year. Very rough recording but it'll do for FAWM. :)

Lyrics

When I was a kid
I'd escape into books
About dragons in mystical lands
It freaked out my parents
They'd watch with a frown
Afraid it would get out of hand

What if I lost my grip on reality
What if I started believing what couldn't be
What if I believed in magic
What if I believed in magic

Well now I'm long grown
And perhaps they were right
Because some of their fears did come true
See, now I'm a witch
Embracing my power
Though coffee is just about all that I brew

I didn't lose my grip on reality
But I sometimes believe what they say just can't be
And I believe in magic
I've always believed in magic

coffee... line is a nice idea. there's definitely a place for magical thinking. I quite like the idea that even though we think we know a lot it's just a tiny glimpse at what is really possible. always nice to hear the uke.

Yesssss! This is awesome!

For some reason, I pictured Metallica performing a version of this. It had Enter Sandman vibes, I guess. These lyrics could easily be metal with the right treatment.

Loved it. This is brilliant.

I like the honest perspective you bring to this and am glad that you never lost your belief in magic and that you also did not freak out your parents by losing your sense of reality. I am a firm believer that we can embrace both! Lovely melody and vocal delivery!

Ooo that didn’t go where I expected! Ha ha! Every generation seems to worry about such things for their kids!

ha, what a creative and fun idea! and it would double as a kind of shaggy-dog coffee commercial! :) nice work, and the music and laid back delivery is perfect for this

What a lovely take on the prompt! "Coffee is just about all that I brew" made me laugh out loud (the "just about" does a lot of work in that line!). And musically, the unexpected major chord at the end of the verses is a, er, "magical" lift! Great skirmish.

I (and likely most people here) identify with maintaining that childlike belief in magic or fantasy - keeping the child alive as we age. I like how it sounds like you're figuring this out as you go. I LOL'ed at the coffee line!

Aww, this is lovely. I love that the child grew up to love magic and mysticism. This feels like a comforting tune that one hums to themselves, I love it.

Not a silly song at all. Quite good and also good to believe in magic!

This a very versatile song. I think you could sing this around a campfire with your uke or in an arena with a big rock band. Lots of voices should sing that chorus.
