I had to switch shifts at work today for a dentist appointment. As such, I'm home from work this morning, which means I fired up Jeskola Buzz & pressed record, allowing my Muse to do what she loves to do the most: just create. This one is live-to-tape, no overdubs in post: what you hear is what was played/sung as the "tape rolled". This one's a little more optimistic than my usual bouts of world hating 😆

The FX on the vocal is c/o CyanPhase's wonderful Sea Cucumber Buzz Machine. I usually use it on my guitar tone, but this time I thought: why not add it to the vox? I kind of like the result…

Lyrics

The Shackles & The Free
================

Through the night
I offer myself
My soul
My heart
Everyone
Everyone I know
To everyone…
It’s all I can give
To this dark
Dark world

As I walk
Through this world
All alone
I know
There’s other people
Out there
Suffering like me
Who look around
And see they
Want to be free
They want to be free…

They want to be free
From all the mundane
Chaos we see

So how can we be free?
How can rise up
From the shackles
That are crushing me
The shackles
Crushing me
The shackles
Crushing me
All your shackles
Crushing me
All your shackles
Are crushing
They’re crushing on me
I just wanna be free
I want to be free
I got to be free
Everyone gotta be free
Everyone wants
Wants to be free

Good track, sung really well, the guitar has a wishful sound in it as it yearns for more, the quiet ending is a soft prayer in hopes of change.

Didn't know you could get wooden picks.
Those vocals are weirdo in my headphones.
Powerful and yet inviting guitar sounds.
The hardest shackles to overcome are in our own minds.
I'm liking how the guitar just sorta wanders away from the song to do its own thing every once in a while before coming back.
This has been a really nice listen.
Contemplative.

The guitar floats and grows with that delay effect. A nice metaphor for freedom. There are moments when it sounds like a clock that would follow a bunch of different timelines, embodying a crossroads of sorts between many unknown dimensions. Quite dreamy and lovely.

Lots to love in the tones alone. That guitar sounds so huge and simultaneously inviting and intimidating. Which most of my favorite things are like that…drugs, big hills, driving, roller coasters…fun and wholesome things that also might just kill you. Didn’t feel like 8 minutes. Is this a time travel song? Wonderful beautiful familiar but brand new. Ya this just washes over me.
