Liner Notes

#iambicpentameter #acoustic this is the 3rd iambic pentameter song i have written this FAWM (one is a collab not yet posted) this was for the prompt of iambic pentameter in the song circle a few of us go to and was a quick write/record

Lyrics

on 1950s BBC TV
between the scheduled programs you could see
some interludes to keep you entertained
before your favourite show came on again

a shepherd tends his flock upon a hill
the gentle turning of an old windmill
and as i watch the spinning wheel turn round
i realise the connection i have found

it seems to me they haven't gone away
and we still have that sort of thing today
but now it's not revolving potter's wheels
it's instagram and facebook bloody reels

with resin turning filling up my feed
and dashcam footage revving up the speed
like london-brighton 4 minute time lapse
a baker kneading dough to perfect wraps

they once had weavers weaving at the loom
it's now revealing sleeves of your tattoo
where once they showed a country ploughing scene
they clear the drive and pressure wash the green

from blacksmiths forging iron as their trade
to barbers demonstrating a skin fade
i guess we all just like to sit and chill
and watch that stuff when we've got time to kill

vivid and far reaching images with time to relish them at a relaxed pace in a clear progression... reminded me of Bob Dylan!

I love the many examples and their specificity; the contrasting of the past and present. As we knew then and is still obvious, humans love to watch each other, not just in competition but in their very ordinary daily lives. Even the music was nostalgic, the easygoing pace was relaxing - a tempo from the past? This was really fun to listen to.

Yup I recall, much missed, your usual great observation of things past! Nice easy musical bed to deliver it! The music had the feel it could have been the exact stuff on the old reels.

Wobbie...Always so insightful. A thought provoking lyric. I must admit that the Iambic Pentameter concept is not totally obvious to me. That said, the flow of the words and phrasing you set forth is a great example. I'm just not certain I could pull that off myself. You are a master! Wonderful music too.

Ooh I like your melodies in this. The up and downs through the intervals are appealing to the ear. So many choice lines in this I can’t choose my favourite. Verse 4 is particularly good. Nice choices of contrast between the era’s. Also the percussion works well with that open/close high hat.

Another great job. Much respect on iambic, it seems to flow so naturally for you and this one is not exception. Perfection on the cross comparison between that which was and that what is. I don't know which one is my favorite cause they are all great but i'm leaning toward the revealing of the tattoo sleeves. You capture scenes we have all been sucked into and this line hit the pins right on the head "instagram and facebook bloody reels". I also really like the word a - gain in the first verse.

Aaah, this one is so nostalgic, even the chord progression has that feeling. I really like this one, it's amazing how you capture the essence of life from these mini-scenes!

ive never thought of those as parallels, but you are absolutely right. the obnoxious shorties and filler reels on facebook are a substitute for the innocuous shots of farmland and the weather that used to fade in and out between television programming. very clever and wee done. from beginnning to the end, i was always looking forward to the next eamples.

I love that line about IG and FB reels. I kinda hate how much of a time suck they are and how they can accidentally pull you in.

Really enjoyed this.
