Everything's For Sale

Liner Notes

My new muse has golden hair and a golden tan.... well, maybe more orange than golden ;)
Everything's For Sale is one in what I suspect will be a long line of songs about the new/old president of the U.S. of A.
I do kinda like the basis of the production, but realized I just had to stop fiddling and post this if I want any chance of hitting 14 new songs this month.
Any thoughts on who this sounds like, where it falls in a genre, if any, and other insights, all very gratefully received.
Please copy and paste any comments also to YouTube, if you have time. Thank you, all.

Lyrics

Don't delay 'til Black Friday
Cyber Monday is old hat
Don't look for closing down sales
No need to wait for that

Is it tagged, are you ready
Got your cash, spend a penny
Credit cards, we take any
And gold and jewels and furs

'cause everything's for sale
Yes, everything's for sale
Morals, ethics, bankruptcy
Never meant that much to me
So, everything's for sale

You wanna buy my suit
You wanna buy her hat
You wanna buy my crypto
You wanna slice of that

You wanna piece of California
Hell, why not take the lot
We'll do a trade for Greenland
If you throw in somewhere hot

'cause everything's for sale
Yes, everything's for sale
Morals, ethics, bankrupcy
Never meant that much to me
So, everything's for sale

Everything's for sale
Everything's for sale
Everything's for sale

You wanna buy protection
You wanna win your campaign
I'm the man who's got you covered
Pay up, avoid the pain

‘cause everything's for sale
Yes, everything's for sale
Everything's for sale
Yes, everything's for sale
Morals, ethics, bankrupcy
Never meant that much to me
So, everything's for sale
Everything's for sale
Everything's for sale
Everything's for sale
Morals, ethics, bankrupcy
Never meant that much to me
Morals, ethics, bankrupcy
Never meant that much to me
Everything's for sale
Everything's for sale

This is great song. The beats are solid and the strings sound excellent. The lyrics ring true and for that reason are depressing so as other have mentioned suit the monotone delivery. Terrific production throughout!

The sort of monotone delivery really suits this. It sort of feels like we have given up and have to start to accept the new horrible future. Kind of dystopian. The chorus is amazing, had me singing along by the end. It just cathes the ear.

Reminds me of Hunky Dory era Bowie. Nice synth work throughout!

I just wish you didn't have this particular muse to contend with writ large... sigh.

Haha, you’re new muse! I couldn’t tell you what genre it fits into but I’m looking forward to hearing more!

Hey again this year! Apologies for not getting to your work earlier, but we all know February is the month with less listening, lol. I love the production and arrangement on everything. Great, frustrating, relatable lyrics. Hope this FAWM finds you well! I'll be listening!

Very well put together and nice chorus, has a cool retro vibe to it!

The opening is very strong on this one, its very enjoyable, but then it follows through. It has a Magnetic Fields feel, though not anything like any of their specific songs. It's just the acid edge, and the dreamy pop. Also the weariness. I'm getting a lot of weariness from this. I feel it too. "Relatable".

Very cool. Reminds me of a lot but also feels quite original. Takes me to the 90s britpop a bit but also a bit of Roxy music and a touch of dreamy goodness.

Absolutely hitting the bullseye with this one. The lyrics aren't subtle but they shouldn't be and there's some excellent lines. Particularly like Greenland verse with throw in somewhere hot as the kicker.
And the all electro arrangement is great too. I love the melody on the second last line of the chorus. Very John Grant. Brilliant start!

Bittersweet. That is the first word that comes into my mind, when I listen to the instrumental. Your lyric is accurate and topical. A keeper!

the music reminds me of the beatles, with a touch of john cale around the edges, but really the song is in a class of its own. the chorus says it all, and i also like the writing of the greenland verse,

You ask about what genre your song fits into, Phil, and I'm no help. I can't even tell what pigeon hole my own songs fit into. I can affirm, however, that your song has captured the political situation perfectly although those with a collection of red hats may disagree. I especially like the lines
"Morals, ethics, bankruptcy
Never meant that much to me"
