The Unseen Menace

Liner Notes

Having done 2 synth tracks, I wanted to let the orchestra out to play. Also, I am still in love with my Roland Fantom 08, so have mainly used some sounds off of it for this track, but I'm surprised how well they integrate with virtual sounds.

I have been watching a lot of Star Trek in 2024, including the latest Section 31 film last night, so I think I was feeling a bit sci-fi also, maybe that comes across or maybe it doesn't. But I enjoyed getting this one out, getting the mix was a bit tricky, but I think I got there in the end - quite reverby, I had to let that violin linger!

Used to make this track:
Reaper DAW
Roland Fantom orchestra patch
Fantom hornz
Fantom 'Concrete Piano'
Fantom big drum finish
BBCSO flutes
Native Instruments Action Strings
Heavyocity Damage
Native Instruments Stradivari violin (I just love it!)

Hi, Carl! So glad to see you hear again. This is beautiful, (of course!)

PS. How are the doggies?

I really love the nuanced big orchestral feel. The underlying bass and drown holds it all together with intriguing interplays between melody lines. Really cool.

I like how moody and atmospheric this is. The violin is haunting. I get the sci-fi vibes, but also some epic landscape vibes as well. It all sounds huge and awesome. Very cool.

Also I did not realize Section 31 was out. I must see that!

That violin is really great! I see why you love it so much. The flute support around 2:30 is really effective. Nice work!

Lush instrumentation, sci fi vibes. Count me in! Those cold varying speed piano arps absolutely feel like outer space. Attention Trekkie @nahlej381 you need to see this! Stellar track... Interstellar even.... I'll see myself out.

You've definitely captured the sci-fi vibe with this. It's inspired me to revisit the Alien Embassy saga I keep rebooting. 😀
A lovely change of pace from your two opening tracks. That violin /viola? that kicks in at 1:20 gave me goose bumps. Perfectly timed and a gorgeous motif.
Lovely work, Carl. More like this one please!

Yeah. I felt like we had menace that still felt a bit like something from a Mozart film. 18th century. Maybe hints of Star Wars. Then turned lighter and star trekky. Like just sort of drifting and contemplative. And the sense of threat came back, gradually and then became that hissing sound. Signals and subtle signs emerging out of hyperspace. Something there but difficult to get a lock on.
