Have had bits and pieces of this song floating around for awhile. Just about finished the lyric tonight before I knew what it was even about. But I think I figured it out now... something of a love letter to my inner child/creator.

The name Sophie means "wisdom."

Lyrics

Sophie is spinning
She is spinning in the wind
She is twirling and a whirling all around
Sophie is wild
She is wild like a child
Whipping hair upon the air without a care to be found

Sophie is running
She is running towards the sun
With fresh dirt caked on her shirt and on her knees
Sophie belongs here
She belongs among the songs
Of the birds and all the ferns and every word of the trees

Don’t you try to tame her
Don’t you try to make her like you
Don’t you recreate her
Don’t you try to veil her shine
Don’t you try to tame her
Don’t you try to make her like you
Don’t you try to shape her
Into something greater in your eyes

Sophie, come on, sing at the top of your lungs
Let your heart songs ring to the clouds
Sophie, don’t you worry if they will mock you
They can’t stop you from singing out loud
Sophie, you’re invited to come and play here
It is safe here to let it break through
Sophie, in your innocence there is wisdom
Flee their system and just be who you are

Sophie is wild
She is wild like a child
Whipping hair upon the air without a care to be found

Really beautiful words and music and vocals. You've done an amazing job with internal rhymes ("mock you/stop you" or "shape her/greater") and some of the lines are exceptionally powerful. I especially love "Don't you try to shaper her into something greater in your eyes." A powerful work of art.

Crickey. Your voice is incredible. Great premise for a song, and beautifully written. You’ve personified your inner song writer brilliantly. I really enjoyed this thank you

Classy take with great attention to detail musically and lyrically, and with a beautiful message to boot. You’re the real deal.

So beautiful. Everyone (not only girls) needs to hear it's okay to be just who your are. Tremendous.

Love this. Great message. Beautiful vocal. 👏🎶

This is excellent! You MUST fully produce this beautiful song! Beautiful vocals, wonderful lyrics, yes, be who you are! Thanks for sharing! Many blessings!

I like the complexity of this: the internal rhymes picking up the ends of the previous lines, the shifting viewpoints ('she' Sophie, 'you' the critic, 'you' Sophie) the slow build through different line lengths and rhyme schemes to a glorious major chord to open the chorus. The music to my ear reflects that intricacy with non-chord tones like the 9ths on the minor. And more simply, I love how "sing at the top of your lungs" is sung by you at the top of your lungs :) It all has a kind of fairylike, mythic quality.

I was today years old when if finally clicked with me that "Sophie" comes from "wisdom"--thanks for that bit of info that had, thus far, completely escaped me.

I forgot how wonderful your voice is. Great, great stuff! ❤️

Very nice.
Lovely vocal and guitar playing.
Strong lyric which helps to remind me to be Childlike and have Fun sometimes even in my older age. It usually happens with music, hiking out in nature with my wife and playing with our cat.
Enjoyed the listen.

I love, "she belongs among the songs." That resonated with me. And I also really admired: "Don't you try to shape her/into something greater in your eyes." Wow! And "...come and play here/It is safe here"--great internal rhymes. And if you can stand one more example: "Just be who you are." 😀 😀 😀

Great vocal performance, especially in the endless flow of the passionate bridge. I myself don't have children, but when I interact with them, I do marvel at some of the discoveries they are capable of making that I missed with my adult eyes.

This is beautiful. May the inner child in all of us hear this song when we need it. Reminds me of the Picasso quote, "“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.” Which then reminds me of Orson Welles' "F is For Fake," loosely a film about forgery, where Picasso is asked to sort a stack of his paintings from fakes and puts several of his actual pieces in the fake pile and says something like "I can fake a Picasso better than anybody."

I adore the way your voice opens up with the song, grows in power and confidence as it goes. Text painting, I think they call that in music theory class...

Lovely! I like how it gets big and it seems like the wind has lifted the song (and Sophie) up!

As others say, the build in intensity is fab. Love that insistent shaker quietly grounding things. Sweetly (and later passionately) sung. And such an affirming and powerful sentiment! Love the internal rhyme on that dirt/shirt line too. This one gave me Sarah McLachlan vibes, it’s brilliant :)

Love the message. Favorite part is when you lay into it and elevate the dynamics after the bridge (?, the part with all the don’t).

Great singing and sweet tune Hannah. Very beautiful I enjoyed listening.

Wow! This started so gentle and beautiful, I did not expect it to get so huge and beautiful too! Really gorgeous example of playing in a melody to follow the story, really lovely song
