I always try to take a stab at a political type song during FAWM as it's not the type of stuff I usually write. However, I try to keep them so subtle that the listener often won't know what I am trying to say. The world just seems to be regressing in so many way of late so I played around with the subject of time and entropy and this shouty loud guitar song came out. (However, I think my vocal melodies still make it quite catchy despite the noise!).

I was really struggling to mix this all down last night so decided to come back to it in the morning. Originally the heavy guitar was in the centre of the mix like the intro and was played all the way through the track. My girlfriend suggested I remove it from the verses and she was totally right. It now adds so much presence to the choruses and the mix down was relatively simple after that. ☺️

Ps. The bass was so fun to play on this!!!

This is so damned catchy - moreso for the noise! I love the staccato delivery of the verses, and the background "oohs" are golden. The "time only lets you go one way" refrain is a fantastic hook, as well as a good reality check to boot. It was that first verse that sold me though - love the sende of sarcasm that comes from the suggestion of rolling back 50 years like it's no big deal. It at least, that's how I interpreted it.

Great track, I'm moving in my seat to this one! That "time only lets you go one way" is supremely hooky. The idea of "system restore" is a really creative way to delve into the topic.

this is the rare song i totally agree with. i love your lyrics, melodies and vocals. britpop was the last popular music phase that i was enthusiastic about. favorite bands were suede, blue, and pulp..while my friends in my hometown were making depressing heroin-addled crap music. time is funny, i was 45 years old when i met brett anderson and he was a mere 30. now he is 12 years older than i was when we met. for me, this is difficult to comprehend, as i will always remember him as he was on that day when we talked forever about dog man star, and both of us, in our different ways, are still singing those songs.

"Time only lets you go one way" is a great hook, especially after the first few repetitions. The rapid vocal cadence of the chorus is a catchy standout. Love the "la las" in the background. This is great!

This is such a catchy song! I love the delivery of the lines and the clipped, tight, funny vibe - I'm a fan of any song that incorporates "prefrontal cortex."

oh this is banging and funny i was just listening to rest is history podcast on 1974!!! you have totally managed to nail the political song with a driving chorus which makes my fist punch the air. top work

Oh this is super cool with really tasty lyrical hooks. You have somehow managed to speak with a directness and power, but ambiguity at the same time! That is a great skill. Excellent song!

I love these lyrics, “time only lets you go one way” is such a memorable line, as is “I don’t make the rules, I just follow them.” I love the vocals in the bridge!!

Cool tune. I like the rapid fire vocal rhythm of phrasing in the verse. The chorus flows nicely too. Nice playing…

haha this is cool man, it was before i was born but i have heard the seventies were great. agree with someone below here about that "time only lets you go one way" that's simple but so meaningful. quality work
