Liner Notes

Saw this #skirmish at half past but managed to sneak this in just under the hour. Recently experienced the quietest and most devastating friend breakup of my adult life, and decided today was a day for processing more of those feelings. I had the first verse and part of the chorus written before I saw the skirmish prompt, but that was what got me to keep going and finish this one (and I still did the whole thing within an hour).

First song written on my new purple Lanikai tenor uke (which I just restrung this morning to my favorite re-entrant baritone tuning - dGBE - I'm glad it mostly stayed in tune for the demo haha).

Lyrics

It's been four months since we talked
That night I thought that things were going well
It's been four months since we talked
And there's so much I wish that I could tell you

We approach our lives from different paradigms
I reach out when you tend to retreat
Neither right or wrong, but now I'm writing this song
To make some sense of my heart's broken pieces
I would have loved you for good
But right now I feel taken for granted

It's been four months since we talked
I still wonder how you're doing everyday
It's been four months since we talked
I never thought that things would end this way

We approach our lives from different paradigms
I reach out when you tend to retreat
Neither right or wrong, but now I'm writing this song
To make some sense of my heart's broken pieces
I would have loved you for good
But right now I feel taken for granted

We approach our lives from different paradigms
I reach out when you tend to retreat
Neither right or wrong, but now I'm writing this song
To make some sense of my heart's broken pieces
I would have loved you for good
But right now I feel taken for granted

I think I'll still love you for good...

this is a great song - the melody is great and it meshes perfectly above the chord progression. very very moving. this has happened to me a few times and it sucks hard and i feel like this encapsulates the feelings well.

Yeah they go out of tune quick with new strings! Imagine if it was 100 degrees as it is here. Ha ha! Any break up is tough! Where do you draw the line between self reflection and over reflection! Well written here! The emotion is evident

Sorry to hear of the breakup, but glad you can partially process that in your songwriting. Thanks for sharing that part of yourself, I enjoyed listening to your song. Made me sad because it reminded me of a similar experience that I went through many years ago.

Getting Jens Lekman vibes from this. I liked it — It’s weird there aren’t more songs about platonic breakups, and if there are they’re not as well conceived as this. I’ve certainly had this experience before, in both intimate and non-intimate relationships. It sucks every time.

This might be the "flash forward four months" to my more immediate take on the same prompt. Or, perhaps the answer song since your narrator is the one feeling taken for granted. Nice take on the #skirmish

I also like how the four months anchors the whole song. Tenor uk is my fave! The chord change in "I would have loved you for good" is great.

I really like the chord progression in this. Great work on the uke

I've heard so much ukelele at FAWM and I'm impressed at how many voices the instrument has. It fits so tenderly with this song and yet I just heard one that was raunchy punk.

A lovely song for such a harsh and raw emotion.

Nice take on the title. The repetition of the 4 months since we talked, is really well done. Not over used but brings it back to verse after the chorus. Nice
