Knock Your Block Off

Liner Notes

this is another song i don't think i will release. it definitely doesn't fit with the anthony kapfer catalogue or the Bald Whig catalogue. maybe all my noise and metal stuff can be some new thing. i don't know.

anyway this is me trying to write a song that sounds like Helmet. the lyrics are goofy tough. it feels like the kind of lyrics a song like this would have.

i did kind of write this about a dude who lives in my neighborhood who is really aggressive towards me every time he sees me walking my dogs. i passed by his house today (he wasn’t outside) and i was like “i’ll knock your block off” to myself, and the rest is history.

this is in drop C tuning. the lowest tuning of any of these songs so far.

i used drum loops for this, because i was too lazy to do it myself.

the bass and guitar are being played simultaneously by splitting the guitar signal and going into an octave pedal. then i overdubbed the guitar solo.

this is another heavy song with the word sniff, as well as actual sniffing in it. must be time to jump in the shower.

Lyrics

eat my fist
i'll punch it down your throat
taste my wrist

smell my kick
i'll put it through your nose
now take a sniff

you need to
beg me not to
hurt you some more

you were rude
i'll knock your block off
you're head will roll
now go to hell

kiss my fist...etc

That guitar riff is slammin'!!

"smell my kick
i'll put it through your nose
now take a sniff"

F'n poetry man. Loving the guitar solo. Heck yeah this is a bop!

Has a Faith No More vibe with that guitar riff and legato chorus. Love the lyrical venting!

Really like the riffage of these tracks, a dirty groove that hooks right in.

There's something in that chorus which reminds me of a song I know exists, but can't quite place - the note that's held across the word rude - is it STP or Alice in Chains? STP I think. Maybe I should check out Helmet one day.

Love the riffage and really cool, tough lyrics. The breakdown before the monster solo is a really exhilarating transition. Fun stuff!

Riff is dope. The solo is just frantic awesomeness. Love the story behind the song. Sniff on this agro neighbor!

Has a Seattle vibe to. Great vibe. Nice and cranky. Drop C is heavy.

Definitely got that heavy in it, and Helmet loved the drop D tuning didn't they? We did a song about Reptilians that my friend dropped all strings by 2 full steps to C, gets deep! I like the rhythm filly kind of stuff at the ends of phrases, getting syncopated to bring in the next!

The image of you walking past your neighbour's place and thinking "I'll knock your block off" is such a delicious starting point. He sounds like a dick btw. "Smell my kick, I'll put it through your nose, now take a sniff" is writing of the very highest calibre. Solo rocks too!
