Liner Notes

I always love a collab with Jordan. His lyrics are always so evocative and sometimes when I read them they flow right off the screen into my mouth 😃Gives me a chance to get my garageband on and mess around with auto tune so thank you for letting me play Jordan! I’m 99% certain this is not the vibe you had in mind for your words but hope you enjoy it anyway. If you don’t, then I will send you the 10 minute outtakes of me trying to rap ‘opioids, overdoses, orgy love’ because I am CERTAIN you will enjoy that. Ahhh what fun I had trying to spit that out. Also, can’t wait for the ROCK version @wehappyfew are doing!

Lyrics

At first it was fun, revving the engine to the rising sun
And you taught me, not to give, a fuck about anyone
Like tomorrow would never come
At first it was fun, blowing their money like a smoking gun
And pretending like we were someone
Like tomorrow would never come

Casinos, Caviar, Country clubs
Bought with fifty dollar bills that you stole for us
Mustang, Motorboats, Moet Chandon
Dressed in Gucci head to toe with a rolex on

And for a while,
It raised a smile, you said the high life was my style
And the money came easier than I thought
You kept on saying 'states don't talk'

Across the borders, blurred state lines
We kept on driving overtime

At first it was fun,
Blazing through traffic as the sirens stunned
Then you told me, run the lights, and fired among everyone
Wish tomorrow would never come
At first it was fun, fleecing our new friends on a whim for fun
Pretending like we were not scum
Wish tomorrow would never come

Opioids, overdoses, orgy love
Brought with fifty dollar bills that you stole for us
Cocaine, chrysalis, crazed bust-ups
Holed in dirty hotel rooms as you shot it up

After a while,
I forced a smile, realised the high life was sterile
And the police came calling like I thought
Despite you saying 'states don't talk'

Across the borders, chased state lines
We always lived on borrowed time

I wish tomorrow would never come
I wish tomorrow would never come
I wish we never fell in love

Wow what a song! Excellent lyrics and they do fit the song perfectly. Ha, so many cool details in this! I love the sounds you used for the music. They are so whimsical but somehow fit exactly! This is something that I could never do and really appreciate. Great collaboration!

Woah... I don't think I've heard autotuned JMS before - sounds ace. The demented synth work underpinning the whole track is very appealing to me - love it! 3 minutes of madness which I thoroughly enjoyed 😊

Blimey that backing track is rather modern for me and above my capabilities. But if you can't be modern musically you might as well be entertaining in an old peoples home. Lyrics like the script for every American movie, probably a bad influence on youngsters like yourself, but it always appeals to us old and past it. And of course that vocal effect that was designed by Gucci and paraded so well by yourself on the pop catwalk. I don't know how you spend all year lazing about and then turn it all on like magic come February.

I like this a lot. So many fun and cool ideas and sounds going on here. Going to check out the rock version.

This is so different to the wehappyfew version and it totally rocks. That is such a wonky, insistent beat, it just pulls you in. The vocals are great, totally carry the show, so much detail and layering. Love it!

no....NO......NOOOOOOO!!!!! Rule number A1, never use that Cher effect on vocals. NEVER.
I like what you did with the video game samples.

Wow, proper hyperpop vibes here! The glitchy synths are so much fun and I love the switches between robo-voice and real-voice, amazing stuff!

Oh this is really cool and lots more fun than our first version! Love all the layers and mixture of spoken word with the main vocals. Just about to post our 1st interpretation of @jorh lyrics now.....

Oh this is really cool! The lyrics made me think of the "Robbers" music video by The 1975. I'll come back to this one, nicely done!

For someone who, like me, dislikes the recording process, this sounds brilliant.

Wonderfully quirky. Where did I put my Commodore 64?? There is just nothign expected here which is what makes it so damn fun.

The uneven electronic sounds give a feeling of uncertainty and unrest, which seem to match the lyrics. Really interesting to listen to. Will be interesting to compare to the rock version!

Ahh yes, the Nintendo vibes are very cool and giving me early EPs era Jockstrap. Lots of inventive stuff going on here, it's great!

I LOVE the bleeps and bloops/synths on this! The speaking parts are perfect too, a great break from the main vocal to create some variety in the textures. I love these lyrics too!
