Strange World, Red Moon (We Built Time a Bed)

I was taken with the images in the poem @mahtowin wrote. I had some trouble recording, but I told her I'd get something up before leaving for vacation. I made my own microphone out of a Big Gulp cup, some duct tape, and peat moss...or that's how it sounds. I imagine rocking out a long outro.

Lyrics

Like a moon in a strange world
The rose hip shines red
(Strange world, red moon)
Like a moon in a strange world
The rose hip shines red
From the branches of the leafless wild rose
Silent beauty in a frozen fog
I breathe out all my sleep
Uncanny frozen dreams
Enchanted crystal forests
Soap bubbles in ice
Time lingers here
We invite her to rest
Between ice crystals
We build her a bed
Made of raven feathers
(Get that through your head)
I breathe out all my sleep
Uncanny frozen dreams
Enchanted crystal forests
Soap bubbles in ice
Time lingers here
We invite her to rest

Time lingers here
We invite her to rest
(Strange world, red moon)
Time lingers here
We invite her to rest

Between ice crystals
We built her a bed

I love when the lyrics start to flow around the I breathe out all my sleep section in contrast to the spaciousness that precedes it, makes it super catchy. Love the imagery; great collab!

Looked up the original poem and it's beautifully written, really like the way @freshspotlessyouth has added repetitions and variations to stretch it out into a song without losing the original spirit. Lovely collaboration!

The slap back is great! The second half of the verse is really cool. The flow of this is super cool. It has a Bowie vibe to me. The chorus is super satisfying when you get there. Love it!!!

The magic of "I breathe out all my sleep / Uncanny frozen dreams " still works, but with this sweet and sensitive incarnation, for some reason, the line "The rose hip shines red " stands out.
Gongrats on recording this and keeping the mysterious mood.

Oh my gosh, this lyric is so pretty. And the expressive, jaunty vocal is a lovely vehicle for the words.

So lovely! The soft singing and beautiful guitar work match the lyrics perfectly! Feels like I'm walking in an enchanted land where Mother Nature rules. I'm happy that she lets me explore her world. Gorgeous song!

What an enchanted, shimmering world Mahtowin has created so beautifully brought to life through music. Can really hear that peat moss 😉 Soothing and restful but with a gentle playfulness... a sleep not from weariness but that of a child worn out from too much fun. Very sweet.

Love how you expanded her poem and made it your own. Nice laid-back tune as well! It's all magically mellow and thoughtful.

danny knows how to handle a poetic lyric (he has written so many of them himself) and he offers a different way to enjoy mahtowins poetry, which is usually written and sung in german so we read along with the translation as she sings) here, we get the goods in english which, for english speakers is a treat, but the real draw here is that danny doesnt lose any of mahtowin's specialness in his english language version.

It's quite magical and enchanting, in both lyric and music. Utterly compelling.

The thing is... Anything with @mahtowin and @freshspotlessyouth, I will listen to. This does not disappoint!

This was really recorded by XTC outside a recording studio doorway in 1982, right? Because it's cool-as, and you were right about the imagery.
