Liner Notes

@cmharwood89: I've never collaborated, never mixed multiple stringed instruments, never tried singing harmony lines, etc... But I've heard Tanya's terrific banjo, violin, fiddle, and vocals elevating enough songs on FAWM that I jumped at the opportunity to collaborate. And she delivered - just listen to that fiddle solo!

@tan482:
I heard Casey’s song “Cheap Talk” and loved it, then I saw in his profile that he had never done a collab before so I reached out. So glad I did! This song really cast a spell on me straight away and I found myself humming it even when I wasn’t working on it. My solo vocal lines really tested my vocal limits but I think Casey totally nailed his!

Lyrics

You said, "Follow me, though I've no clue where to go"
And trusting every track you laid, I laid into the path unknown

I found myself, unsettled and alone
Is this dark a shadow that we cast or just a moon that never

shone, that never shone?
Did we cast so large a shadow or was it a moon that never shone?

--------------------

I said, "I'll find my way, although I doubt I'll ever know"
Which twisting trail is sympathetic to my fear of overgrowth

I heard you gasp, with a loathing in your tone
You said "I left the door unlocked and now I dread the devil's in our

home. He's in our home!
He's settled down to see the town and cool his heels inside our peaceful home."

---------------------------------------------

We found him there, his barstool like a throne,
Pounding out a whiskeyed sermon on ivory keys as white as bone.

His rye-soaked laugh, made manic by the tones.
You kicked the legs right out from under, finding all his menace

overblown; But not your own…
The demon laid upon the boards, you'd taken all his power for your own.

---------------------------
FIDDLE!
--------------------

I'll follow you, as you flee into the cold.
Hands in fists and heart that pounds a rhythm like a metronome

Now you're on your knees, digging through the loam
Searching for some sanity beside the crossroads, under every

Stone. Beneath the stones.
That chained-up id that once you hid under a pile of weather-beaten stone.

--------------------

You said "make haste, we've still so far to go"
And soon our flight exceeds the night and leaves us with a dream we've not

Outgrown. We've not outgrown.
Night conjures up the vines of anxious minds and waters them with the unknown.
----

You said "follow me, though I've no clue where to go"
"You've trusted in my footsteps every night before, so why should you
postpone?"

Woah! What a fantastic collaboration. So amazing that this is your first rodeo. I was so struck by all the beauty of your voices and playing, that the first time through I barely listened to the words at all, but going back through they're every bit as good as the singing. There's that undertone of the Devil at the Crossroads.

That acoustic guitar really drives this along. I'm loving the way your voices play together. This would have been great as a one-take acoustic song, but all the musical adornments really take it to the next level. Really lovely and intense in a quiet way

Marvelous stuff from both of you. The restrained tremolo electric parts, the fiddle, the way all the parts fit together...just great all around. Good lyrics, with the "You said 'make haste...'" one standing out to me as especially good.

Thanks for making this downloadable.

An amazing piece of music, the kind of thing my Devil's Claw alter ego would be making if he had the voice(s) and ability.

What a hauntingly beautiful song! Your vocals and instrumental performances meld together perfectly. If there was a FAWM streaming app, this one would be on my favorites playlist. Well done.

Oh wow! Such devastating poetry brought to life with the earthy instrumentation. It’s great to hear both your voices and Tanya I have to say you are just hitting it out of park vocally with this one. I can believe how far you’ve come in such a short time. The harmonies - I can’t even!! And I can’t single out any lyrics it’s all so good!!

'his barstool like a throne...' great lyrics throughout, and the arrangement doesn't put a foot wrong. And Tanya, way too modest! The vocals work really well together.

This makes me want to pull out a handful of gold coins and put them in your hat in the best possible way. Telling a story around the fire energy. I freaking love it. Great collab do ten more!
