Caught in glass

The backstory:
I have a large collection of glass paperweights on my hearth, mainly because I have a photographer's fascination with the play of light through glass.
And in September of last year I was diagnosed with a cancer that required some fairly brutal radio and chemotherapy.
This left me pretty much housebound and unable to perform a lot of everyday tasks.
I remember one evening, feeling quite down, and staring at my collection of paperweights. The thought struck me that my life had been frozen within quite rigid boundaries, not unlike the bubbles of air trapped inside the glass paperweights.
This morning, I used the memory of that thought to inspire this tune.

Full disclosure - I started this tune mid-morning after my walk with my dog.

All music and photography is my own. #noai

Very cool feel and love the chord progression! Dreamy feel and I love it. Hope you are doing ok my friend. I have been away from FAWM for a bit and glad to be back listening and creating.

Very emotional work, lots of self introspective feels and visualizing what is inside the glass.

Yes, it seems this track is both airy (as the air in the bubbles) and heavy (as in the glass), but there's a feeling that there is transparency somewhere to be found.

Thank you for sharing your powerful inspiration for this song. The paperweight imagery beautifully captures your feelings and experiences. It was amazing to hear that transformed into music. I love the choir sounds and the flute brought this to life. Thank you for sharing 🐸

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Your music is gorgeous, haunting, beautiful and sad. Very emotional and universal in its appeal. Your music fades away but you are here to stay for a long time. Sending positive vibes your way. You have a lot to keep giving.

Ah, shit, I'm really sorry to hear that.
Such melancholy here, and also a sense of forward motion, relentless movement toward a goal, as exemplified by the guitar line.
Lovely.

Paul, what a beautifully melancholy start. There's a sad tinge to this, for sure, particularly in the beginning of the verse, but that chorus has hope embedded in it. Was that intentional or just your soul coming out? I don't know, but this is a really thoughtful track.

So inspired and beautifully sad. I think you captured the moment and I hope it has played out and happier moments take its place.

One thing is now clear, I may not have time to write any more songs this Feb, I will be too busy listening to beautiful pieces like this. 😎

Perfection... I can't listen to the end as it's too heart-breaking. I will try and come back to it later on :) I got to 1:35 xxx

Bloody gorgeous, Paul. I can hear darkness and hope both in here, and when the choir came in I got a little shiver. Top tootlestick action, too ;) Happy FAWM!

This was very pretty.

I love your photography, especially my favorite coffee one you did. This tune is so poetic and full of feeling. I am so glad you are here to continue your beautiful, inspirational music. I felt the bubbles in the glass as I listened to your tune. Meditational. Love it, as always 🎵 ❤️

Interesting back story, always interesting what inspires us! Very nice piece really proggy. Nice start to Fawm , so glad you are into making music!

interesting harmony changes, and chord and arpegio selection. it sounds interesting and i'm noticing unexpected harmonic resloves which make it very cool and deep. I would say sad, but I think it can be interpreted in many different ways. great work on putting your feelings on the recording. i hope you will feel better soon. cheers.

Oh, mate. I really feel for you.

Awesome way to turn your feelings into music though. I very much get that sense of exploring a strange new environment. Lovely chords and melody and the choir supports the flute perfectly. That's a wonderful choice. If it conveys a certain sense of uncertainty it does it absolutely beautifully.

Really powerful opening track Paul, that gentle repeating guitar arp does it for me, draws me in and despite it being so crisp and clear, it has that slightly dark element that reflects the recent goings-on in your life. Cracking track!

Challenging story and wonderful song. I sense a reflective approach this FAWM (which I think you do anyway). Excellent first song!
[avatar]
So beautiful. I feel like I am walking alongside. You have built a whole countryside into the bubbles in glass.
[avatar]
I feel the music really reflects what you write about in the liner notes, it has a brooding waiting quality with a sense of both hope and sadness..
[avatar]
Wow, that's a powerful analogy. And the music really does seem to reflect it. Love the flute!

Beautiful, spacey, Love the arpeggios!! Great mix... I could see the light my friend!! (I too recently underwent horrifying chemo...I know what you went thru) And I'm so happy we are both here to write songs and carry on!!

So I thought there was going to be a definite ending, but instead this fades away. It feels like the moment in time you thought about this and maybe during and after your composed this, perhaps the trapped feeling would always be. I'm kinda holding back tears a bit here. I appreciate the artistry (photography + music). It means quite a bit to me to hear this. It feels like an emergence.
