Found My Way (Wie Goed Doet...) #CommentsFirst Challenge UPDATE

by @katestantonsings

Liner Notes

#CommentsFirst Challenge #macaronic challenge
This song was written based on the first 7 comments I received.(https://write.fawm.org/forums/3025).

Needs loads of polish ;p, but I hope I got my rough ideas across! I used the beads in the photo for some of the percussion!

Demo Written, Performed, & Produced in Logic by Kate E. Stanton 2/5/2025

1. Chord progression on the chorus is the same as the verses only reversed. @beto
2. Key Change towards the end! @nahlej381
3. Improvised with percussion lying around. YES! I used my daughter's box of beads seen in the album artwork :) Danke, @nadine
4. A "metal" break (used a metallic drum) I hope this counts?! @chill4matt
5. A few Dutch words or phrases: "Wie goed doet goed ontmoet" translates to “he who does good things shall encounter good things”. Bedankt @max
6. Danceable for @sbs! I added both the latin percussion for a rhythmic groove one can dance to!
7. Started this experimental song off & ended with a string quartet! @beacon

Lyrics

LYRICS:
(String Quartet intro)
Now when I see others lost
I know what to say.
I finally found my way.

V1:
Took my love
took everything
thought i'd nothing left
hurt my heart
hurt my mind & soul
I couldn't let go
it crushed me deeper & deeper
I fell into a big black hole, and yet

Chorus:
(Dutch phrase)
(Used beads for improv percussion)
(Piano & reversed chord prog)

Wie goed doet goed ontmoet
Wie goed doet goed ontmoet
Wie goed doet...

V2:
Took my trust,
took dignity,
spread lies like they're the truth,
Scarred loyalty,
fake rivalry
but I let it go
in forgiving deeper & deeper
I dug myself out of a big dark hole, because

Chorus:
Wie goed doet goed ontmoet
Wie goed doet goed ontmoet
Wie goed doet...

("Metal" break with danceable rhythms)

Bridge:
I was lost
reaching up
healing hands
they lift me out
now it's time
for me to help,
here I am!
Here I am!!

(Key Change cool down)

(String Quartet Outro)
Now when I see others lost
I know what to say.
I finally found my way.

Incredibly fun and well done. You wove those disparate comments together in a delightful way. Enjoyed listening to this!

She plays, she sings, she knows Dutch! That's not fair! 😀 Lovely, as anticipated. You are so versatile and talented.

Thx Kate(Don't ...I commented on this song the other and it didn't show up..bummer
anywho I love the soft singing and melody and that vocal change near the end...you have to keep that in this song!

Great use of the comment prompts, lots of variety, really all goes together, like the percussion used!

Listened to this with my girlfriend Mary Catherine (who you may or may not recall wrote the lyrics to that song we collaborated on with you called "New Love" a couple of years ago), and she LOVED it. Well, of course, so did I. Really amazing at how you could pull 7 weird comments (not as weird as mine would have been: "Do a verse about a weasel riding a bicycle", or somesuch) together and do a great song. Again--it's your arranging/production values that I find particularly good. (Yes, and the voice, the voice). Great job! ❤️

A great demo! It grabbed my attention right away.

Wow, really cool! I love how you used those beads and the Dutch (which also makes it fit the #macaronic challenge!). Great lyrics -- especially the opening/closing lines, for me.

@sbs
Love the percussion! Way cool! Dancing (in my head - haven’t had my coffee yet - lol!) Appropriate power vocals.Nicely done, Kate!

That's quite an experimental track, but you managed to add a lot of the prompts. Some cool ideas here.

Much respect! Started the day with this one and I enjoyed my first listen very much.
Goed gedaan!

Very beautiful song and take on every prompt. Very creative and fun. Very enjoyable listen. You are on the roll, Kate! Your vocals and playing are gorgeous.

The addition of the string quartet was a surprise.

@sbs
Oh wow! I could really dance to that!
[avatar]
Yeah! A few dutch words in it. Sounds great. Your pronunciation is really good. So much fun.

A "metal" (head banging) break? Love it!

I liked that you improvised percussion with stuff flying on your desk. Who needs shakers and tambourines, when you can use pencils and a box of paper clips?!
[avatar]
Sick key change towards the end! I wasn’t expecting that!

This sounds great, amazing vocals and beautiful piano playing! I like how the chord progression on the chorus is the same on as the verse, but reversed, clever (and punny, should I say?). Lovely!
