Liner Notes

Another (mainly) acoustic guitar song. Maybe I should stick doing these as the words seem to be coming a lot easier with this style at the moment.
Some ukulele, resonator and my crappy old nylon string in the instrumental break.

#folk #fingerpicking

Lyrics

Fly away little one
Chase your dreams to the sun
Glide along on the wind
To a place where you can sing

I’ll stay here behind
One day you will find me here again

Fly away little one
To be what you want to become
Over oceans wide
You’ve grown up with fire inside

In another time
I hope you will find me here again

Fly away little one
I always knew this day would come
Go and spread your wings
My journey’s done, now yours begins

You’ll be on my mind
Maybe you will find me here again, again

Superbly bittersweet and I love the way you make the child a bird leaving the nest. The fingerpicking is exquisite, and the vocals hit just right. Really nice!

Beautifully sad, love the melody and production, your voice is always so amazing, very emotive. I have one child that died and one in college and one about to graduate high school and my perspective on this is of course my own, but you are singing my heart out in the open in many ways and I appreciate the depth of this song.

Lovely indeed. Tender, heartfelt lyrics. Beautiful playing and production work. This was a real treat to listen too. Really enjoyed listening.

Oh this is lovely. The second vocal and the delicate soundscape is perfect. I need to try this sound.
It has a lovely feel and that Spanish guitar bit really picks everything up.
Reminiscent of Tallest Man on Earth. Really cool!

Simple and lovely. The ukulele's doing a bit of a mandolin impression in the break with that percussive plucking. Works a treat. People often chuck Simon & Garfunkel comparisons at me, so now I get the chance to respond in kind.

Beautiful piece, beautifully performed. Definitely a good niche to live in! No complaints here if you keep making more of this! Makes sense to mine as much as you can out of this method until you feel "stuck" and are ready to push through a new boundary. Ooh! Love that change of pace with the solo. What great playing & writing!

Awww very sweet, with a classic feel. Love the mandolin/charango/whatver that is solo!

As a father of three I really like those lyrics. And beautiful delivered.

I've recently become a grandfather. This brings tears to my eyes. Thanks.

Oh my, this is really precious and lovely. Your playing is so comforting, especially with this beauty of a lyric. Goodness, that crappy nylon is wonderful in your hands! Oh some day I hope to do something like this. I love it.

This is a beauty! I love the narrative, harmonies and that surprising and interesting instrumental interruption.

Yup for sure simplifying sometimes has that effect! It works for me. A really nice song to listen to reminds me of a singer from a lifetime ago called Clifford t ward. Then we go all Latiny, nice

Is this supposed to me cry or something? You should change the lyrics to "fly the hell away goddammit I spent 18 years of my life taking care of you be gone already". Don't forget to vibrato.

Lovely song - mellow, tuneful delivery and wonderful guitar work. The instrumental section was nicely distinct. Very nice work all round! If the songs are flowing, go with it I say!

In contrast to the sweetness of your song and having been a parent for 25+ years, my view is very much "off you pop, don't let the door bang you on the a*se on your way out and leave my guitar here with me thank you very much".
[avatar]
Outstanding! Extremely enjoyable listen. No comment, just lean back and listen. Eyes closed. Feeling blessed being a parent.

I don't know that I've ever heard so much emotion conveyed by your voice before. You deliver this achingly and wonderfully.

As a parent of young twentysomethings, this song sings to my heart. Beautifully written and performed.

Just right and so sweet!

I know this sentiment. Beautiful song and sound!

i hear this as a gorgeous good luck farewell to a daughter who is grown and ready to leave the nest. the guitars and the voice combine to lift the lyrics to the sky

I ❤️ it. Beaut oddbod!

The melody line fits so well chord changes and I really like the heartfelt lyrics. I can feel an Oddbod: Unplugged album coming on!

I can never ever resist a song about little ones leaving the nest. After 12 years of parenting, I'm just hard-wired that way. This is achingly beautiful stuff. It's stripped back, but also that subtle pad in the background really fills the sound out and makes it feel warm and immersive. Guitars sound gorgeous, as is your want. And a really well done vocal too. Class.

This may have a fairly minimal production, but its sound so big!

really enjoyed this, there lyrics feel very honest and truthful, like there's a bigger story behind them (there probably isn't but it feel that way, and that's a compliment!)
