A key with no lock
Liner Notes
#homemade #reflective #onetake #improvisation
The inspiration for this one is the memory of watching an interview with a lady who had lost everything in the recent LA wildfires. Her closing words were about the sadness she felt looking at her keyring with her front door key. And she described it as a key with no lock. I found that incredibly moving. And it can also apply to those of us who have lost loved ones. It sometimes feels that the lock to our key has vanished forever...
This is a quick improvisation on one of my homemade PVC wastepipe flutes with a little help from Stargazer reverb.
All music and images are mine. #noai

@heliosonorous
Lots of feels of things lost, captures it well in quick succession.

I appreciate how your share your inspiration for this song. It was beautiful and somber. Communicates the emotion very effectively and was a great listen. 🐸

First pipe off the heap! Musically ovely stuff. I'll hafta retaliate. It seems Stargazer is just made for PVC flutes. Your short impro has captured the loss/sadness well.

PVC! Amazing 😍. With your description, I envision smoke in the echo of the the flute because there's so much emptiness.

What an amazing hook and the music is as sad as the inspiration.

This beautiful and haunting sound is coming from PVC pipes? Incredible.
Sad and haunting. It really fits the title well and I really understand the imagery with the lock and key.

This definitely conjures up sad imagery for me. It creates a big sounding space and atmosphere, both with the reverb effects and the spaces you put in between phrases. I like the slow, contemplative pace too.

Yeah, what they all said. Hauntingly beautiful.

Great job! Love how you convey the mood in this song, very sombre

Oof. This hits ya right in the feels... It's so darn sad, but like being sad and looking up to the sky, if that makes any sense...
Also, what now? A flute made of a bit of pipe? Wow.

Beautiful story and such a well delivered tribute to the LA fire losses. Very evocative piece. I actually didn’t want it to end

Beautiful and sad! Feeling lost while hearing your tune.

What a powerful and evocative piece, and the emotion and color you get out of the homemade instrument makes it all the more impressive. Moving work, Paul.

wow, sounds great. the story behind the song is also sad and the performance definitely works on that topic. i listened three times, great performance, amazing how you can put emotions and dynamics into one instrument, and the reverb sounds fantastic. congrats on a new song.

"homemade PVC wastepipe flutes" - no-one would have ever guessed that, no hint of plastic-ness remains. Didn't take long for the shimmer to come out, the story that goes with the song is really very moving, what the people in LA have gone through is unimaginable. Your story and music are now rolling around in my head....

Wow Paul, this is moving and poignant! Unbelievable that you are playing a PVC instrument that you made. Oh goodness, this is why I love FAWM and hearing your music. Well done!
