Liner Notes

James says:
Finally after 13 years I collaborated with @mdavisto! You know it's going to be a good FAWM when you wake up with a track from him in your inbox.

I worked on this all day. Wrote out the melodies, then got the lyrics. I got the vocals to a satisfactory level then added some guitars. The rest is all @mdavisto.

@mdavisto says:
Hello. This being the first FAWM track, I spent too much time on things that don't matter. PROGRESS NOT PERFECTION.

ONWAAAAAAARDS!

Lyrics

Wishing In What Was

Verse 1
I thought it could not happen
I never could imagine
Blinded by my own passion
It has ended, it is finished
I thought we’d always make it
Saw nothing that could break us
I thought our bond would take us
To a good place, where we would stay

Pre-chorus
I’ve got to seize the moment
Can’t get trapped by emotions
I can’t deny it’s over
But I can make it for one more day

Chorus
There is no point in wishing in what was
Dim memories, a mirage
When I go out I camouflage, blend in
There is no point in wishing in what was
Gotta move on I cannot pause
It doesn’t matter who was wrong, or right

Verse 2
It’s funny how distorted
My vision was, extorted
Attention was so shortened
In a second, to a segment
Awareness was all splintered
Our desire down to cinders
And now the hounds of winter
They will circle, it is certain

Great to hear a collaboration between you two! Loving the progression here particularly. James's vocal really soars and works perfectly against the really well judged electronic arrangement. Top work guys!

I am glad you two spent the time ...love this. Slow intro then it builds, buzzy synth, great beats , killer vox all the elements for a great song and one of those song that gives me an ear worm..lol in a good way!

Ooooh the clicky click percussion is a delight. Damnnnnthe beat just dropped and it legit feels like it’s giving me electro shock therapy cos I got my headphones on. Not sure what it is you’re trying to zap out of me but I fear it’s working 😛
This is one catchy AF chorus. Awesome writing you guys!

Love this track! Love the momentum generated by the pre-chorus, and how it builds into the chorus! So catchy! Beautiful vocals. Love the groove and the nice clean sound you've gotten. great lyrics - especially love "there is no point in wishing in what was" (I am curious to know if that was the starting lyric you used to build the song of if that came later). Fantastic song! Great job!!

I enjoyed this, both the softer slower intro. and then when the percussion kicks in and then more of a rhythm a bit later. Very fine work. Of course, can't really tell which is in the original and which is in the shaping, but a fine piece of music as the result. Good collab!

Oh, that bass double on the second half of the 1st verse is awesome...and then the jam?! What a great track. The vocals (all of them!) are especially sweet.

Enjoyed the slight metric fake-out in the beginning (the triplet swing of the beat threw me). This is cool, those bass tones are beastly, and works as a nice counter to James' melodic vocal. Good job, chaps!

In a second, to a segment....love that!

oooo. so good. those bass stabs. yummy. More you two

Closing eyes. Shaking head in time from side to side.....feet bouncing, irresistably...oh yeah. You're back.

Lovely arrangement, as per - just the right mix of punchy and dreamy. Strong vocals. Great dynamics. Excellent work you two.

The melody in the verse is so dreamy and creamy. Great track all around.

Epic track! Always love a slow burn into a mega funky drop from you @mdavisto. The dynamic shifts and that sharp as shit sawtooth bass is so cranking. Love how the vocals and lyrics move between sparse in verses/pre chorus' to super rhythmic in the choruses, super effective. Top shelf stuff dudes!

Whoa that opening of deep synth in the lines right before the drop gave me chills, so expansive! Really liked the slaps and claps a minute in too, really satisfying. In general, this song has a lot of progression to it, evolving more than a finch in the Galapagos. The vocals of course were a treat all themselves, really liked the delivery, extremely clean and perfectly tinged with that characteristic synth-y reverb. The lyrics were super interesting too, chock full of imagery. Really great collab, great work!

Great collab! That gritty bass synth that comes in between sections of singing communicates so much in tandem with the lyrics' sense of helplessness.

wow, this is a killer track!! I cranked up the volume and it is filling up my whole house right now. so polished and clear, tight yet relaxed, dreamy yet focused. I wouldn't change a single thing. Amazing job both of you. Can't wait to hear more of your amazing talent and creativity. it inspires me.

I love everything about this!

Some things are worth spending the time even when one isn't intending to or shouldn't, really. Seize the moment indeed, and sometimes it has to stretch out. (I write this listening to this wonderful track having spent hours (hours!) on what was supposed to be a simple ukulele song (for which comments thank you)). The hounds of winter are certainly circling me and mine, but isn't it wonderful to come up with something like this nevertheless? And it sticks in their teeth, I'm sure. My first FAWM2025 download!

Love the fuzz buzz i got listening to this. Great collab guy. The track is really strong and the topline sits on it so well, you have thought you guys were in the same room building it together!
[avatar]
i need a subwoofer to clean my windows with this. more buzzy dontmattery things please! also, some dramatic breakup lyrics - my favourite is "in a second, to a segment"!

i like the way the dance beats lift out our from the melancholy of the opening verse. and in the final verse, the melancholic vocal is boosted by the hyperactive backing track, there is so much to like in this song that i was moved to listen to it twice.
