Dance with my ghosts

I made the late night error of watching part of "The Long Night" GoT and Jenny of Oldstones usurped my own Papeete as an immediate earworm. Then I realised how many ghosts I have myself, and how many have slipped from memory, and somewhere around midnight recorded my own dance with my ghosts. Not, be it said, with anything in common with Florence and the Machine (!)

Minor editing--a false start, and then a couple of arthritic fumbles--but it's essentially as is. So, a total composition/performance time of 4 minutes and production time of 3 minutes... Sometimes things just work.

This is beautiful. I like that little cascade in the middle. We hear a lot about the chain-clanking kind, but I think these companionable, shade-of-blue ghosts are closer to home for most of us.

I love that you can communicate an idea without words. Your playing just allows my mind to fly. There are so many dark things going on, to sit and let go and think about something, even melancholy, at least those thoughts are my own. I love your playing, this is a beautiful dance of memories.

I really like this. It definitely captures a slightly haunting feel.

This is an incredible composition. It moves between moods often and the pacing works really really well. Loved it.

This sounds like dancing with your ghosts as your invited guests. In harmony in spite of the past.

Beautiful instrumental! I hear an endearment for the ghosts!

Okay, I did not understand your liner note references but nonetheless this was a lovely gentle piece that beautifully conveys dances with lingering thoughts - our ghosts - in the night. It flows effortlessly with a non-threatening non-sinister haunting feel.

Of course, I had to listen. You had 'ghosts' in the title! Whether it’s caffeinated coffee, mischievous spirits, or something a little more NSFW, I’m all in. This is so gentle, though. I can almost see joyful, playful orbs floating around the room, having a little fun with the living. Solemn, yet filled with euphoria. Ahhh 👻

A comfort born of familiarity is in this melody. They may be ghosts but they're your ghosts. Beautiful and need I say haunting.

I agree so much with @leencha, you can hear that you're "in". It's grounding and also lifts and swirls. I could live in this music - it's wonderful.

This is so soothing and beautiful. Such a great piece that I would like to have something like this to my own album 😀

Haunting, quieting and very lovely, Tim, and over too quickly (IMHO). I could listen to that for hours.

Beautiful, gentle and soft. This is enjoyment! Sounds pure. There is variation. Nice bass and bass chords and melody that later on is harmonized.
Is this actualy a freewrite? An improvisation? You were in the position, at the right time, you were ‘in’ the music. I think we piano players have a good understanding of musical arrangement and structure. We play everything, from bass and chord to melody and rythm. Love it 🤗

Man, this is beautiful.

it sounds to me like the ghosts are doing the dancing and you are playing the music for this ghost dance as they dance around you er midnight

And sometimes not, glad this is the former! This has a proud sure feel to it! I can’t really explain but it’s got strength! Lovely piece! Sitting here with no one around music up in the open air! Life’s good today!

this is a beautiful piece of music. i’m listening to it a second time as i write this. you fit a lot of movement and flow into a relatively short piece. it’s very well done
