Well, I have about 5 ideas going right now, but none of them were really satisfying me yesterday. So, after some feeling blue, doubting myself, and all of that fun stuff I decided to get out an electric guitar and see what happened. Well, what happened was a fun song that has some energy that ends up sounding like me....Surprise! So, I'm on the board and happy to move to many other ideas now.
The title is a reflection on how I'm feeling right now. Typically, I would have that buzz about a finished new song that I DO like....But, I have a cloud over me and I'm not exactly sure what it is. I have my suspicions.....more on that later. So, the idea that the name of the song was even important was not in my heart. Entonces, el titulo de esta cancion es "A Flip of the Coin"....no importa, verdad? Si.
I played:
Agile Harm (Ric copy) through a Vox AC15 (right with Audix i5 and left with Cascade ribbon mic)
Hofner 500/6 (Now with tape wounds, which is GREAT) through DI and DBX 163x.
drums (new to me 13" hi hats, which are surprisingly good to record and a Meinl Byzance Dry Ride that I was hoping was more dry, but it' sounds good recorded and isn't as bright as the one that I've used for 15 years)

Lyrics

Nope, but you can do it! I believe in you! Just ask first, please.....

This is really very cool indeed - properly rocks out. Melodically really appealing and the arrangement is impressively tight. Nice work as always!

Sounds like a flipping coin. Love the panned dual electrics and your drums sound fabulous. I'm glad I don't live above you. As the man said, "I like to play it but I can't stand the racket."

I just had to come by and get a quick listen to the original. I'm digging it. I can see why multiple vocalists wanted to track it.

Very cool layered guitars effect! Tight! Kinda puts me in mind of “The Knack” but a bit more punk sounding! Remember them? Thanks for sharing! Blessings!

This is RAD. I'd love to take a stab at a vocal for it... If you're willing to trust me with it? Great song right here.

Woo! this blows the cobwebs out! I love the way this drives along. Everything sounds so good, i can't pull out anything in particular, it all gelled so nicely. Great opener, there is a great determination in that track i reckon... forging ahead!

A cool rocking tune gives me late 70's rock vibe, hope someone adds some vocals with attitude

Producer Hat on...Crispy and delicious guitars, dig the sound, maybe they are too hard panned for my taste at least on my speakers, but I get that it leaves room for vocals, and this songs deserves that
the drum kits feels a bit narrow in the stereo perspective... cymbals especially the hi-hat feels very centered, and there's a slightly honky resonance in the the midrange on the snare, maybe some percussion like cowbell in the 1:21- section and some tamb from 2:40 and out
[avatar]
Yeah! This has a really cool glam vibe to it. I can imagine it being played by chaps with long hair, platform heels and big hats. Very cool.
[avatar]
Love the guitar tones! Reminds me of The Sweet or maybe early Franz Ferdinand... both winners in my book!
[avatar]
This is sparkling! It's so alive. So great to hear your music again. :)
[avatar]
Wow, that really rocks! So foofighterish, you have to invite Dave Grohl for the collab 😎

First time ever i am adding an extra comment. I have just been blasting it out of my studio speaker (one has just broken ;-)) and i just wanted to add the Mix is bloody bang on. and man the drums properly cut through on my loud speaker. Wooooohooo . Will be back to this one again matey
[avatar]
Wahoooooooo!!!! This just rips, top to bottom. Awesome sound on everything. So good and energy pouring onto the floor because there's too much to contain. Awesome riffs
[avatar]
That BASS SOUND!! Actually, this all sounds amazing. One of the coolest things about this is that it doesn't sound like one person overdubbing everything....it actually sounds like a band playing and interacting with one another. Rock on!!
[avatar]
yummy. Bass sweet. Drums tasty. Those fills - honey. the guitar - chocolate. 02:15+, you do some really nice work on the drums. I really like the tight sound of the drums. A lot is going on, yet everything is clear and in the right place. an inspiring mix. congrats on your first song. What a, what a. great song. cheers.

So my seven year old listened to this with me, immediately ripped his shirt off and started dancing like he was in a mosh pit. I asked him why he took his shirt off and he yelled at me “you can’t control my rock and roll outfit!”
[avatar]
Now we're suckin' diesel, boys!! What a rocking tune! As others have said, You got me bopping along in my chair to this one. Brilliant all round.
[avatar]
Rob, this has to be one of the most instant catchy rockers you’ve churned out . Instantly hooked me in , and boy it sounds awesome in my current borrowed car sound system . Windows down , heads down , let’s go 🤩 btw the drums truly kick ass 🎶🎶🎶

@axl
Ah, this takes me back to the 80s. Is it just that I'm old, or did this music really sound much more lively, energetic and fun than the "modern" stuff? (I guess the answer is yes to both.) Great transition at 01:10 and a fantastic tune to start my morning with. Like an extra cup of coffee.

This song was just wanting to be born before your other ideas could come to life! Really cool rock song!
[avatar]
well that worked! nice guitar mate! one of these days I will be in a position to have a crack at one of these cool pieces! nice
[avatar]
Proper rocking guitar - love it!
[avatar]
Sooooo easy and fun to listen to! Like easily listening but with rawkkk hands! Also it’s 5.8km/h if you want the tempo in treadmill terms 😁 Yes I am in the gym right now! I would like to sing/shout on it pls? But what can I sing/shout about? Hmmmm
[avatar]
Oh this is really rocking - I am literally chair dancing! I have missed all your wonderful guitars that all play so nicely with each other. The rhythm is really catchy on this one Rob - like I am not sure where some measures start and end and I am OK with that 😆 I definitely feel the energy in this song and it sounds like you worked a few things out in the writing of this rockin' tune! Congrats on song 1 done and dusted!!
[avatar]
Cool stuff! To me this evokes the early aughts wave of garage rock. Could work well with a speak-singing, a la Art Brut / Franz Ferdinand / The Hold Steady
[avatar]
I'm glad you got something through and pushed through the self loathing. I know the feeling very well. This track rocks, can't help but thinks it needs Eddie Vedder like vocal approach to it, then again I am a Pearl Jam fan boy so I will probably say that about any rockin' track, which this indeed is!
[avatar]
Holy devil horns, this one screams. Never heard a Hofner rock so hard!
[avatar]
This is all kinds of crunchy! I love the energy in this one. It's a real toe-tapper, chair-bopper. I really hope my neighbours are enjoying as much as I am (this amp goes to 11)! A great way to open your account. 😀
[avatar]
This shines. Great drums and the guitar rocks! Hella cool!
[avatar]
Nice punchy snare! That keeps it moving for me. Tight guitar riffing and it all comes loose and opens up after 2:40 which is a great place for that jam. I like it.
