And So It Begins...

by @b3nut

Liner Notes

Figured I'd kick things off this year with something inspired by the complete disaster unfolding here in the US (heartfelt apologies to those in the more civilized world...we tried...dammit this hurts!)

EZ-Drummer
Traben 5-string bass
Squier baritone Telecaster
Peavey frankenstrat
Hammond B-3 + Leslie

Lyrics

Verse 1

First it rumbled slowly
Then it picked up speed
A changing of the order of things
Warning signs to heed
Illusions of normality
Are powerful indeed
But undercurrents became apparent
To any with eyes to see

Prechorus:

The serpent’s awakened, and it wants control
It’s breaching the systems and cracking the code
Aggregating data in the government halls
It wants to rule us all…

Chorus

And so it begins…none of us are safe
And so it begins…is it not yet too late?

Verse 3

Traveling a well worn path
Authority forces tread
Totalitarian history’s track
Strewn with the souls of the dead

Prechorus

The serpent’s awakened, and it wants control
It’s breaching the systems and cracking the code
Hell is now empty, all the devils are here
Voraciously salivating…

Chorus

And so it begins…will any still be free?
And so it begins…is this what we want to be?

Repeat Chorus x2 like this

And so it begins…none of us are safe
And so it begins…is it not yet too late?

And so it begins…will any still be free?
And so it begins…is this what we want to be?

Awesome wave of metallic sound! Reminds me a lot of Atomic Rooster, who were very doomy and Hammond-focused. The lyrics are suitably dark and completely true. Sounds like the song you would hear right before the apocalypse arrived. Love the organ, of course!

The slow tempo really adds to how heavy this hits. Really love this! The key change for the solo was really effective. Listening to this really feels like you are getting pulled into a uncomfortable disorienting world (I mean that in a good way...it fits the theme of the lyrics well and it is a really enjoyable listen)

This HITS in so many ways - The power of that B3 and the heavy guitar add to the dread that I feel immediately upon reading your lyrics. The sinister delivery of the vocals make this even more powerful. Love how you let this wail - fantastic song!

Wow! This is powerful! We are living in really crazy times, aren't we? Love these lyrics, this melody, this wonderful wall of sound you have created here. I love it all, and Well Said!

What a huge and heavy sound you've created here, Todd. I love it! Reminds me of the hardest Deep Purple... Also just a bit of classic The The. what a sound!

Wish like hell the topic was so necessary... but alas it is. FML in the USA.

Great work, unlike the work going on stateside 😧 Great wailing vocal, expressing how some of us feel on the inside. Love the Hammond too.

Very cool stuff! Has that classic heavy metal feeling all over it, which I love! Yeah, it seems to be quite the shitshow over there, although there's not much to applaud about our current government here in Finland either... Well, it's a small consolation, I know, but I guess hard times create great art.

That intro is fire! The sort of thing I always look for. Outstanding track that builds to something HEAVY!

My devil horns are in the air my dude! I'm a sucker for B3. The double kick section creates so much intensity. Keep on rockin'!!!
[avatar]
How huge is this! Whos saying metal can't be heavy without gutturals or blastbeats?
[avatar]
Very fine handling of all the musical elements and the rage. I dreamed about warfare last night; don't think that's happened even once since I got to old for military service. As others have said, I love how the B3 cuts through and wails away in despair.

The hammond is absolutely epic. Great venting and ranting...I hear you.
A good solid start to FAWM.

I didn’t expect you to go in so heavy and then get even heavier. The tonal lift for the (awesome) B3 solo at 3:12 is particularly good! Great performance all around.
And god, I feel so sorry for all the Americans who didn’t want this disaster to happen. Hang in there, stay strong!

Holy heavy duty shit right there, Todd! I’m here for a protest song, and you knocked it right out of the ballpark. I feel this so hard.
[avatar]
Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww. I totally get behind the heaviness of this one. You've built a proper music beast. B3 is so killer. I'm pissed and completely relate. Ugh. Well done with your venting. Killer tune.
[avatar]
Whoa. Good rant.
[avatar]
Big and loud sound, love it!! Not a Trump fan then?
[avatar]
Awesome tune! I love how visceral the sound and lyrics are. So it begins indeed
[avatar]
Love it Todd! Thanks for turning me on to this place. Inspiring, and a side of you I didn't know existed. Love the heavy handed rock.
[avatar]
Oh dang, love the heavy vibes and the organ ripping in right from the start! Very great, desperate lyrics.
[avatar]
Seems we both had angry reactionary songs to start this year, haha

I get a grunge-but-with-organs vibe from this. Musically, at times Alice in Chains and at times Soundgarden. Either way, it hits hard! Favorite line: "Hell is now empty, all the devils are here"
[avatar]
This is mighty! The agony is all in this piece.
[avatar]
Wow! Way to get after it! Good stuff, Todd! Keep on, keeping on...
[avatar]
I like how this is both timely and universal. the music style has this nostalgic feel to it like a good mix of 70s-90s metal. Also I'm enjoying how the organ goes off. Also all the lyrics are spot on thank you for addressing the complete nonsense head on.
[avatar]
youve got some powerful, rumbling doom metal happening here. i especially like the prechorus and chorus, where the vocals really cut loose,
[avatar]
You can only try! Yup worrying times for many Wow that a big start! Great number! Love the chugging drive ! I really enjoyed this to the end. Top stuff mate

@axl
The organ sounds heavy! I'm headbanging along. You have a great classic heavy rock voice. I love it.
