Demo Written & Performed by Kate E. Stanton 2/8/25 in Logic. Song number 4 #FAWM challenge! #girlwithpiano #piano #ballad #hope
I took this photo last week at my favorite thinking spot :) It's a park behind my work office where I spend my time hiking during my lunch breaks whilst daydreaming about songs. Needless to say, it is a special place for me. Thank you for listening!

Lyrics

Trust Me

Here in the quiet, shhhh, no sound.
No waves break the surface of my dark shroud.
Ooh, I take a deep breath in,
Count to three where the moon & the stars align.
Still, I hide as they collide.
The light I seek says,
“Trust me.”

Just trust me.
“I won’t hurt you.”
“I’ll never desert you.”

Here in the fading light, none around,
The weight of my past drifts like soft snow.
Ooh, the evergreens grow strong,
Yet their roots beneath the earth we never see.
Tall limbs rise when they believe.
The light I seek says,
“Trust me.”

Just trust me.
“I won’t hurt you.”
“I’ll never desert you.”

Sometimes, there are things in life we can’t control.
Give back what’s not mine and let it go,
Cuz there is always hope.

Here in the morning glow, I rise anew.
The shadows that haunted take a different view.
Ooh, I sternly say aloud:
“I don’t ever want to feel the way I did before!”
We all shine with gifts You’ve adorned.
The light I seek says,
“Trust me.”

Just trust me.
“I won’t hurt you.”
& “I’ll never desert you.”

Gives me strong Tori Amos vibes -- really beautiful, Kate. The piano is incredible and so is your voice. The lyrics are wonderfully spiritual.

Beautiful piano + vocals, and your backing tracks are sounding good in Logic! I feel like you are new to DAW's? Nice production!

I love the concept of seeking and trusting in the light… and the introspective way you approach it is really moving. There is both a vulnerability and a sense of hope that emerges through your well-crafted words and your beautiful music. This is a really special song.

Well sung and structured, has a longing feel to it and how the voice keeps returning.

First of all I love the structure of the lyrics - how you tied all the verses together, the transitions from the verse to the chorus, and also the lyrical pacing (faster percussive verse pacing and then slowing down to the chorus). The vocals are just so delicate and beautiful. I totally feel the healing power of being out in nature in your song. I walk around a lake near our house, and it is so meditative being under trees and seeing all the wildlife. Your song has a meditative quality to it - especially in your wonderfully played piano. Wow this is just stunning!

Kate + microphone + piano = perfection.

Even though I've been extolling your production skills this month, I DO really love your nice, simple piano accompaniments. Terrific song! ❤️

Oh this is lovely. I forgot the chills I get listening to you. Such a great use of your voice that really brings the lyrics to life. Love this song and the structure, it just feels so natural. Out of interest, what piano do you use?

Simply beautiful and deeply affecting...a gorgeous listen...

The chorus is so heartwarming. I really felt these lyrics and they brought me close to tears. Your favorite place is beautiful, really fitting the song!

The chorus is really solid. With some refining on the verses this has the makings of a good song.

We need those fav spots! Wish mine could make me sing like this :-) love the piano line! Top performance as always.

Lovely photo, lovely song. I especially like: "Tall limbs rise when they believe". and "I don't ever want to feel the way I did before." Somehow this song is "softly empowering."

Kate, this is a wonderful song. Caught me right at the beginning. And I also enjoy that you write along, not caring too much about song structured. Everything falls into place and sounds natural. This song may work piano only, but also with a subtle pop arrangement. Good write - definitely a keeper.

Beautiful, meaningful song. Fantastic lyrics, music, vocals and piano. A real treat to listen to. There is so much beauty, harmony and power of love and care. Love your song, Kate.

@sbs
Beautiful and like @billwhite51 said, I also appreciate writing outside of “structure.” There is so much more to a song than that. My agent said my novel writing was poetic, almost lyrical. I say that to prove my point. (Especially since I usually get dinged for that from my NSAI feedback.) I love the lines about trust. Nicely done, Kate!

Your voice and piano are soothing, as they should be with this theme of trust and hope. Life has so many ups and downs, moments of despair and of renewed hope. I like how the song journeys through the whole process. I like how the light is both something you seek, and something (someone) already there, speaking.
Is that the Logic 'Studio Piano'? I just discovered it (new upgrade) and love the sound! I used it on my first song this Feb.

i love the songs you are writing, especially when performed like this..piano and vocal liberated by the constraints of conventional song structure..like laura nyro and tori amos who follow their inspiration wherever it goes. i know you are focused on your writing, but if you ever feel the urge to step outside it for a collab, i will be happy to write a lyric for you. just ask if you ever get the urge to take a sideways srep.
