Good Morning Blues

Liner Notes

David says: I'm embarrassingly excited about getting a collab in with @fearlessflight2014. Big fan, basically. This started life as one of those awake-at-4am-ideas that only really come during FAWM. What if you woke up each morning and physically manifested your blues as a different animal? From there, it's been a proper collaborative effort on lyrics, structure, style, everything really. Ever the trooper, Liz has even pushed herself through post-covid chest lurgy to lay down her awesome vocal.

And so, without further ado, we invite you to step into Liz & David's House of Blues...

#blues #shuffle #uprightbass #fakeliveband #collab

(Oh, fun fact: the applause at the end was recorded last week at my friend Pepe's gig in Camden. Yes, I'm that shameless).

Liz says: The fandom is mutual. Everyone who has been around here for a while knows what an incredible songwriter and musician @davidtaro is. What I didn’t know was how generous and awesome he is to work with. What a joy! I’m so glad I approached him because this felt truly collaborative on every level.

Lyrics

Every day, I wake up, say “Good morning, Blues”
Every day, I wake up, say “Good morning, Blues”
‘Cause every day when I wake up
My blues takes the shape of something new

On Monday I’m a grizzly bear
Growlin’ in my cave
‘Cause I don’t wanna go to work
Don’t wanna be nobody’s slave

On Tuesday I’m an albatross
Settling on the breeze
No land in sight just endless flight
Across these stormy seas

Every day, I wake up, say “Good morning, Blues”
‘Cause every day when I wake up
My blues takes the shape of something new

On Wednesday I’m a camel
Trekking ‘cross the sand
Still feels like a mighty way
To the promised land

On Thursday I’m a rabbit
Racing through my day
The wolves are nipping at my heels
There’s always hell to pay

Every day, I wake up, say “Good morning, Blues”
‘Cause every day when I wake up
My blues takes the shape of something new

On Friday I’m a meercat
Hangin’ with my tribe
When the working week is over
That’s when I socialise

On Saturday what matters is to
Wake my monkey soul
The world becomes my playground
I don’t need no self control

On Sunday I’ll be anything
Anything you like
‘Cause that’s when I’m relaxing
Don’t want no blues in sight

Every day, I wake up, say “Good morning, Blues”
‘Cause every day when I wake up
My blues takes the shape of something new

Yesss, you're both absolutely going for it. Such a great match for each other, really captivating. It feels like your sparring in the same vocal booth!

I would be more than willing to clean the bathroom stalls just to get inside this club. Holy sandwiches! I had to sit back and hold my chest. This sounds absolutely fantastic. Buuuut before I get too far with the praise of the music, let me comment on the brilliance and humor of those moody blues y'all be describin'. Witty, relatable, and definitely comedy gold. If ya'll ever pair up on a show for real, for real....you must do this one. I insist! Wow....y'all almost made me cuss! 😀 Excellent work!

Wow! You guys need to start a band right now and start touring, this was so fabulous. I loved it so much, the vocals in the chorus are so stunning.. the blues suits your voice so well David and Liz's vocals are flawless.. absolutely love your voice! Very fun idea for a song too. Excellent musicianship

Oh wow! All hail. So many things here. This is a song! From amazing guitar playing and harmonies to duet vocals and those lyrics, you guys can put together a collab!

I have been listening to some really good songs but this blows everything else here out of the water. Liz, are you sure you aren’t the reincarnation of Sarah Vaughan? You two are truly awesome together. And now I want to be a meercat.

We played this in our kitchen and there were some wows at the end. Your voices sound great together. The instruments are quintessential blues (love the organ) and the delivery is spot-on. The animal idea is a nice one too. The electric guitar sound is fantastic. Is that a real double bass? Awesome stuff. Congratulations!

Th music is great and so is the performance, but I really can't get past the concept. That's fabulously inventive...figuratively, and in the sense of creating your own new fables.

The blues is alive across the globe literally! How can’t you like this! Great timing! Good meld of voices! Too cool for school!

Wow! A great duet!

Where do i get tickets to Dave and Liz’s house of blues? Take my money!!! That upright bass in just dreamy and when it takes the lead briefly is awesome. Your voices work so well together - please don’t let this be the only collab you guys do!

This is so much fun! Love the concept of your blues being a different animal each day - so unique. This stunning performance is just so bluesy! The applause is a nice touch too.

The applause at the end is well deserved this is awesome! You two harmonize so well. Really rockin’.

Two of the best with one of the very best blues duets I have ever heard! This is absolutely fabulous! The bluesy groove is perfect and the days of week approach is perfect! I love how your vocal lines dance around each other and come together with fabulous harmonies! The instrumental lines are perfect.

OMG, this is epic on so many levels. The amount of talent here is off the charts. You both sound great and the sum is logarithmic to the parts. I need to go to this show.

Right on - this is for real - your voices mingle wonderfully.
And the attitude is viable. (I didn't see meerkat coming, but I approve 😎)

Wowza! I LOVE this! Your voices are perfect together, and I love the vibe! A very sophisticated romp through the Blues zoo. So, so good!

Reserve me a table at the Liz and David's House of Blues. Seriously, I would rather hear you two than Louis and Ella anytime. But I have to admit it wold be a difficult decision if it Billy Eckstine and Sarah Vaughan were playing in town on the same night as you two. Aside from the stellar performance, this is a crackin brilliant song. it hits all the sweet spots and exceeds all expectations one might have for a song like this. What is most impressive is that you do all this without copying anybody. Two original voices making brand new a classic formula.

Gotta add, I wasn't looking to bust your Zong. However, I did drop everything to listen when I saw it posted. I listened three times though before commenting, so I was a bit surprised to have the honor...But I'll take it,

It was hard to hear that clapping at the end above the sound of my own clapping here. That was spectacular!!! I had high expectations but you two just blew it away. I love the day by day structure for this song, and each day's verse was just incredible, fun and true. The chorus is just outstanding. Your voices meld together so well. I particularly like the moments when Liz's vocals dance around DTs. That is so classy and professional. The music is fab and the bass and guitar solos are killer. DT, that vibrato was SING"N!!!! You two are both stars in my book. So happy to listen to this collab...Yay!
